(252,205 posts)I used to shoot (rifles) competitively and I do not choose to own a gun. You'd be better off with a less lethal defense, some kind of spray or a self defense course.

(252,205 posts)Though my personal gun was fairly light since I was smaller than the guys on my team. I shot on an otherwise all male team in high school, though I learned to shoot at a girls' summer camp and was on an all female team there. And we never used any sort of clip, loaded it one bullet at a time, those were the rules. And we were thoroughly trained and had to know and understand safety rules before we ever picked up a gun. We shot at targets at 50 feet. One of our unwritten rules was to never shoot anything living. No one ever did.
