3. Black Panthers did this, no?
Isn't this why Ronald Reagan as Governor of California passed gun control laws, because armed Black Panthers showed up at the polls to protect the right to vote?
Sadly, if Black people did strap on ARs, I'm afraid we'd simply have more dead Black people. |

7. You are correct.
The sight of the armed Panthers on the steps of the California state Capitol led to a rapid reappraisal of gun laws.

14. Cajun militia vs. when NFAC came to Lafayette LA
Basically they let the white men with guns go wherever they wanted but when the black men with guns came, the city issued maps showing where guns were restricted.
https://www.katc.com/news/lafayette-parish/lafayette-sheriffs-office-provides-map-of-firearm-free-zones-in-the-parish The map sets up a 1,000-foot buffer zone around schools across the city, which are designated as gun-free zones. But given previous armed protests in the city, it raises the question why it's only being enforced now.
On August 28, Kenneth Jenkins, a permitted security guard, along with two armed men in Hawaiian shirts known as the Boogooloo Boys, escorted protesters around Lafayette. "We weren't aware of any type of zone that we couldn't do anything in. The cops were like, 'you're good,' so we're good," said Jenkins, who said his job was "to make sure nobody interferes with [the protesters] as they use their amendment right to protest peacefully, since people are getting threats through social media. It was my job to make sure everything was done safely." According to the map issued by LPSO, the Boogooloo Boys were in violation and under law could be arrested. They're not alone. Days later, a group known as the Louisiana Cajun Militia was also in the gun-free zone - with guns. "Cajun Militia, the Boogooloo Boys, we've all been in violation of the zone," Jenkins said. "So what is going on?" We spoke with officials with the Lafayette Police Department and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, who said the gun-free zone law is clear. The officials declined to be on camera and neither would speak on past events. We also requested an interview with Lafayette Sheriff Mark Garber, who declined our request. https://www.theadvocate.com/acadiana/news/article_20a1c56a-ecad-11ea-b65f-b35c2887aba4.html Armed men who said they are with the Louisiana Cajun Militia joined a demonstration Tuesday evening outside Lafayette City Hall. (Note: outside City Hall was a designated GUN FREE ZONE when NFAC came to town.) The group of 40 to 50 men stood about 100 yards from protesters that included representatives of Black Lives Matter and other critics of Lafayette Police. The protesters were demanding racial justice after the Aug. 21 fatal shooting of Trayford Pellerin, a Black man, by Lafayette Police officers on Evangeline Thruway. ![]() https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/04/us/louisiana-gun-discharge-demonstration-trayford-pellerin-death/index.html ![]() More than 400 armed demonstrators with the NFAC came to the city to protest the death of Trayford Pellerin, a 31-year-old Black man who was fatally shot by police in August.
Leaders of the group said they also decided to go to the southern Louisiana city after seeing a Facebook post allegedly from US Rep. Clay Higgins, who represents the 3rd District. According to CNN affiliate KATC, the September 1 post -- which has since been deleted -- included photos of Black armed demonstrators and warned that if such protesters came to Lafayette he would "drop 10 of you where you stand." "If you show yourselves aggressively natured and armed in my presence. In my neighborhood. Where I work. Anywhere close enough to put my family or my fellow citizens in danger. That's where your journey will end," the post reportedly said. CNN's attempts to contact Higgins or his office staff have not been successful. (Where was Clay Higgins during the insurrection when people actually showed up "aggressively natured and armed in [his] presence In [his] neighborhood. Where [he] work[s]. Anywhere close enough to put [his] family or [his] fellow citizens in danger?" ![]() |

25. To be fair,
there are plenty of videos on YouTube where police were called when a white person was openly carrying. I will not try and say police treat the subjects the same whether white or POC as that would be a fool's errand.
OTOH the advice often give here has been to always call police if you see a gun because you cannot be sure they are going to do something. QIn your opinion, should police not have been called since there was no indication he was going to harm anyone? |

26. Of course calling the police is the right thing to do so the complaint of disparity isn't aimed at..
... the general public its aimed at the police reactions.
Police were "called" when a white person was associated with open carry I've never seen them charged like this young man without any proof or any direct evidence he was doing anything wrong. That's the difference Call the police all day long every time, the police acting like this guy shot up the joint is the bigger deal |

22. Uh, nope.
I've had "conversations" with them about this. They have ways to rationalize everything. I doubt it would seriously shift opinions of staunch 2nd amendment types.
I've even heard some proudly declare their racism and outright say they support more guns in POC hands because they only use them to kill each other. ![]() |

23. They shoot black people just for looking like they "may have a gun"
so they won't ban guns, just increase police shootings. They're already using terrorist fake news for the Boulder shooter because of his Middle Eastern heritage. He was no doubt arrested alive because the cops thought he looks white.

29. I've told my republican friends that...
... I agree that owning a gun is a constitutional right. And since it’s guaranteed in the constitution, the govt has to provide to everyone -even if they can’t afford it. So I say that all people over the age of 16 and on govt assistance should be given a free AR 15 and 1000 rounds of ammo. I use to call it the “Obama Gunz Program”.
They REALLY don’t like the idea, but it makes them dizzy trying to explain why. |
