Biden Offended By ABC’s Cecelia Vega Asking About Child Migrant Conditions at Border: ‘That’s a Serious Question?’

By Colby HallMar 25th, 2021, 2:07 pm

President Joe Biden clearly took umbrage with a question regarding overrun border facilities in Donna, Texas asked by ABC News’ Cecelia Vega.

Amid a national debate among politically minded sorts over what is, or isn’t, considered a “crisis,” Vega cited a border protection facility in Donna, Texas that is currently at 1,556% capacity, mostly with unaccompanied minors. “There are kids that are sleeping on floors. They are packed into these pods. I’ve spoken to lawyers who say that some of these children have not seen the sun in days,” she described the conditions.

“What is your reaction to these images that have come out from that particular facility?” she asked. “Is what’s happening inside acceptable to you, and when is this going to be fixed?”

Biden seemed somewhat dumbfounded by the question, replying in an almost mocking tone, “That’s a serious question, right?”

He continued, “Is it acceptable to me? Come on.” He then continued by explaining his administration’s approach to rectifying this problem. “That’s why we’re going to be moving a thousand of those kids out quickly,” he said. “That’s why I got Fort Bliss opened up. That’s why I’ve been working from the moment this started happening to try to find additional access for children to be able to safely, not just children, but particularly children to be able to safely be housed while we follow through.

1. It was an offensive question; she asked whether those conditions were acceptable to him

knowing full well that they weren't. I don't blame him for asking whether it was a serious question.

5. The President and his administration is working on this very difficult problem, and a reporter

suggesting if it isn’t done quickly would imply the conditions are “acceptable to him” is insulting

6. For some reason it didn't dawn on the questioner that Biden is opening facilities to address this

Just peeved that he is addressing problems before they can use them against him.

8. The question should be put plainly, "What you are doing to clean up trump"s mess?"

This crap has gone on for 4 years under that orange puke inducer. It won't be magically cleaned up in a few months. For christ's sake! That piece of shit dictator wannabe left huge messes everywhere and it has only been a couple of month's into Biden's presidency. I am so pissed at how they are treating this man and his administration.

11. It was a ridiculous and offensive question. Did she expect him to say it IS acceptable?

Some of the questions were inane, but Kaitlin Collins (who I usually like) wins the prize for the stupidest questions:

Will you run for re-election?
Will you run against trump again?
Will Harris be your running mate?

Come on woman, he's been in office barely TWO months and you're already moving on to the next election AND who his running mate and opponent will be?

This is why these press conferences are so stupid.

12. Part of the problem is that there was no useful transition.

That is completely Trump's fault. So, Joe Biden has been in office for just over two months, and had to start essentially from scratch on this problem. He's on it, now. Everyone should really give him and VP Harris some time to fix things that Trump screwed up.

I'm really annoyed by this particular focus on something Trump caused. Biden will fix it. But, he can't do that instantly, for Pete's sake.

13. Yeah, poor journalism. Going for the sensational rather than the facts.

"Mr. President, the facility in Donna Texas, is currently at 1,556% of capacity and conditions are being reported as inhumane. What is your administration doing to rectify this situation and when can we expect significant improvement in the lives of the children at that facility and others like it? "

That is a pretty hard hitting question, but there is no implication. This is a problem, what are you doing about it, and when will we know what you did had a positive effect.

You can follow up with, "How is it that this situation was allowed to develop in the first place, and what is being done to prevent something like this in the future?"

14. She's treating our President as if he's a typical amoral Republican.

She's asking the President of the United States - and not the one who was the cause of this problem - to affirm he is a decent, caring human being.

Yes, that is offensive.

Instead, every single Rethug congresscritter that stood idly by while this was implemented four years ago should be asked that question every day until they answer.

15. You are aware, are you not, Ms. Vega

That the former guy and his henchmen spent four years breaking the immigration and refugee programs, punishing people for trying to escape lethally intolerable conditions in their countries of origin, and breaking up families. You know that, right? And your question is why hasn't my administration put everything to right in two months after the former guy hollowed out CBP and ICE, leaving only the most incompetent and sadistic retreads to run the place? Do I have that right? Did I supply some inconvenient context for your question that for some reason you elided?
