Destruction, deaths in Alabama tornadoes. Birmingham metro area threatened now after suburbs hit

I'm streaming ABC 33/40 out of Alabama and three people have killed by tornadoes in central Alabama and more storms are forming as I write this. Tornadoes have also touched down in Mississippi and Georgia.

CALHOUN COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — Three people have been confirmed dead in the town of Ohatchee in Calhoun County following a likely tornado Thursday afternoon.

Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade said more fatalities are likely and two other injuries have been reported.

worked about 34 hours on about 2 hours sleep. Went to help a friend for about 2 hours and ended up part of Civil Defense #1 team. All started by accident but made me feel so good about serving I made it part of my life. Seldom any glory just made me feel good.

Some close family friends living in Standale suffered a lot of damage but thankfully nobody was injured.

I was in one of the few F-5 tornadoes to ever hit Michigan but I was too young to remember it. I wasn't quite 1 when the April 2, 1956 tornado slammed through the area and tore the roof off of our house while we were sheltering in the basement. My mom said my eyes were as big as saucers when the tornado hit but I didn't cry. Maybe that's where I get my fascination with tornadoes. Here's a picture of the damage about 1/4 mile from our house. We were lucky to have just lost our roof.
