Trump's secret sit-down with Ohio candidates turns into 'Hunger Games'

It was a scene right out of "The Apprentice."

Donald Trump was headlining a fundraiser on Wednesday night at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Fla. But before the dinner began, the former president had some business to take care of: He summoned four Republican Senate candidates vying for Ohio’s open Senate seat for a backroom meeting.

The contenders — former state Treasurer Josh Mandel, former state GOP Chair Jane Timken, technology company executive Bernie Moreno and investment banker Mike Gibbons — had flown down to attend the fundraiser to benefit a Trump-endorsed Ohio candidate looking to oust one of the 10 House Republicans who backed his impeachment. As the candidates mingled during a pre-dinner cocktail reception, one of the president's aides signaled to them that Trump wanted to huddle with them in a room just off the lobby.

What ensued was a 15-minute backroom backbiting session reminiscent of Trump’s reality TV show. Mandel said he was “crushing” Timken in polling. Timken touted her support on the ground thanks to her time as state party chair. Gibbons mentioned how he’d helped Trump’s campaign financially. Moreno noted that his daughter had worked on Trump’s 2020 campaign.

Edit:

"... one of the EX president's aides signaled to them that Trump wanted to huddle..."

Very soon even in red Ohio Trump will be like Hitler was in post WW II Germany. The OH GOP
wants to cozy up to Trump fine let 'em.

BTW the one OH GOP Congressperson who showed some guts and voted to impeach him
was Anthony Gonzales .. 4 year starter @ Ohio State, NFL, and NFL all pro ... I want to see
Trump get in his face.

2. No offense, but this gentleman was never anywhere near being an All-Pro player in the NFL

All-Pro is a very prestigious designation, and this guy, despite being drafted in the first round out of Ohio State ... was an embarrassing NFL bust given his 1st round status.

That said, I'm sure he could whoop-up on all the rest of these fools, esp IQ45 lol

And for a RePuQ, he must be at least sort-of alright.

Embarrassment. He is very smart too and got out
of the NFL before it took its tool on him. I think he had
some injuries too. If you were a 3 or 4 year starter @ Ohio State, a first round pick in the NFL, and played in the
league you were good.

His stats for his entire 5 year career amounts to one decent season for someone like Jerry Rice, put it like that. He had tons of injuries, you're right on that point.

He did not live up to his first round status, he had a career you'd call good for a 5th rounder.

I don't think he made a Pro Bowl, but even if he did, All-Pro is a different designation than a Pro Bowl, and much more exclusive. It means you were voted by consensus as THE best player at your position in your Conference (AFC or NFC), as chosen by the sports writers of the Associated Press.

There's only (around) 22 First-Team All-Pro players per season (and the same number of 2nd Team All-Pro), vs like 100 who go to the Pro Bowl, which is essentially a popularity contest, voted on by fans.

Just sayin.

I'm sure he's a fine gentleman if you vouch for him Botany

I see he went to Stanford Business, so I'm sure he's no dummy.

who knows more about football than you or I will know in 200 lifetimes liked him.

BTW yes i did get a chance to meet him and he was a true gentleman. Big ass hands too.

I read last week that the Mercers (yeah, THOSE Mercers) were donating to his campaign.

Is it possible that Vance is a Never Trumper?

12. Update: J.D. Vance joins the jackals

But a funny thing happened after the introduction of J.D. Vance, anti-Trump voice of the working class. He began to drift into the Trump camp. I don't know why or how, but Vance became not a voice for the voiceless but an echo of the loudmouth.

Scroll through his Twitter feed and you will find retweets of Tucker Carlson, alarmist alerts about immigration, links to Vance's appearances on the podcasts of Seb Gorka, Dinesh D'Souza and the like, and even retweets of Mike Cernovich.

But the tweet that really made my heart sink was this one from Feb. 12: "Someone should have asked Jeffrey Epstein, John Weaver, or Leon Black about the CRAZY CONSPIRACY that many powerful people were predators targeting children."

By citing the cases of Jeffrey Epstein and John Weaver, one a convicted abuser of underage girls and the other an accused abuser of teenage boys, he is whitewashing the QAnon conspiracy.
