"Do you have any older bread that would be cheaper?"

Heard in an outlet that sells the bread that couldn't be sold to retail outlets.

I bought her a loaf of bread even though I am nearly in the same place. Glad to share. I guess I'd be a lousy Randian/Republican.

I myself bake my own bread (much cheaper & better tasting). I also share with my neighbors. A little kindness goes a long way.

My oven was broken during the April 27, 2011 when my noggin went through the glass of the door. I never used it that much anyway and a good toaster oven can do a lot of things.

Maybe I shouldn't ask.

Anyway, If you keep your eyes open at Flea Markets or yard sales,
you can find bread makers super cheap. I found one for 2 bucks and use it all the time.

I do something similar in thrift stores. When I need something I go to the thrift store to see if it is there first before I pay top dollar at a retail store. I tell the cashier to put the change toward the purchase of the person behind me. I've been doing that for years.

6. My husband paid for an older ladies shortage at the dollar G

she couldn't get her card to work or more likely there was nothing on it. She had dug up about 3 bucks in change. She needed 8. They were in the process of putting things back so she could afford them. My husband said, "no, I'll pay it." he chipped in the missing 5 bucks. I wish he had slipped her a 20 too. Didn't occur to him at the time. I bet she could have used it.

18. I was at a Kohls once where two women were buying some kids' clothes--using discount coupons

Kohls cash--looked like several people had probably contributed for the purchase--and they were short about
$5.00. They were trying to figure out what to put back...and I said I would cover it. They looked at me
like I was nuts--and I wondered whether it was racial (they were black and I'm white). I told them...pay it forward...
the time will come when you can...but they refused my offer.

It saddened me. I wouldn't have minded giving them the money at all. They just wouldn't accept it.

12. I consider getting a coffee beverage

from the likes of Starbucks, Caribou Coffee, etc. a luxury. I could afford to get a latte every day if I wanted but I just consider it a luxury.

So on the odd occasion that I (1) go to one of these outlets for a "coffee" and (2) use the drive-through (the original thought of a drive-through latte shop made me shudder).....I used to pay forward for the car behind me. You know...a nice way to treat someone else. This is almost always after I have gone for an early Saturday morning spin class at the gym and I'm feeling the high of the endorphins. But the last time I did this I didn't see they had about 6 people in the van, including several children. They had each ordered sugary drinks with chocolate, whipped cream, etc. on it. Their total came to nearly $25.00 whereas I had a simple skim latte.

So it pays to look carefully in your rear view mirror at what vehicle is following you and how many peeps are riding before you offer.

and that horrid Ayn Rand was wont to say to her detractors "nothing stops you from making charitable donations." And that is exactly who does so, not the rich.

Not what you did, that was wonderful. But it is really sad that in this country (We're Number One) someone can't afford the bread that is at or past it's due date, and is looking for staler bread.

And yes, you really suck as a Republican and worshipper of Rand.
