They did it to Davis, and they wanted to do it to Brown. Now they are trying with Newsom.

I do hope that this serves as a wake up call for Newsom though. He sometimes appears to think he can do anything and it won't hurt him. He needs to be smarter and more transparent. He has good political instincts, but his private life keeps creeping in and causing him to step on rakes.
