The site, a local mall, was drive through only, which I managed not to be aware of. I wound up being only two cars from the very end of the line. The shot itself was moderately painful, more like a strong pressure that hurt. But afterwards, so far, no pain. No arm stiffness.
I'm an annoyingly healthy person, essentially never get sick. A robust immune system. So I honestly expect no or almost no reaction to the vaccine, but I will report if I get any.
Honestly, if I could have one wish, I truly would wish that everyone could be as healthy as I am. Many doctors would wind up going out of business, but what a better world if people really could be this healthy.

(8,445 posts)But I DID have a reaction to my second Pfizer shot. It's all in the rearview mirror now, though, and I'm SO happy that I am vaccinated.
I have a play date scheduled on Monday with my four-year-old grandson. I can hardly wait.
Oh, and yay for you!!!

(49,445 posts)So I'm getting a nice birthday present! It's a double-dose one, so I'll be back in late April.

(25,857 posts)I wonder if overall, the J&J (one and done) has in the end significantly fewer side effects. Not that I'd have turned down a two-dose version. One nice thing about only one dose is that twice as many people can be vaccinated.
I am ready to PARTY!!

And youre NOT ready to party. Two weeks for some protection, but it gets better as time goes by

(25,857 posts)I do know that it can take at least 24 hours for anything to show up. At least this is the beginning of the weekend, so I should be good by Monday to head back to cardiac rehab, right?
And yeah, I hate to tell you you're right, but of course you are. No partying too soon.
I live on a double cul-de-sac street, and ever since last year I've been telling neighbors that when this is all over, or when we feel comfortable, I want to have a block party for our little neighborhood. I think that in a month or two it can happen. A decent number of us will have been vaccinated. We will be outside, and we can continue to social distance. One thing that I'm looking forward to is getting to meet neighbors that I've never met before. The layout of my small neighborhood is such (picture the Greek letter Pi) that it would be very easy to have a block party.
My personal experience of this pandemic has been that people are friendlier and nicer than ever before. I have not personally encountered some jerk refusing to wear a mask. I find that in the grocery store or anywhere I am, people are considerate and courteous to me and to others. I am the same.

(25,857 posts)Thanks for that information. So if I get a strong reaction, I won't be too surprised.
I will say that one thing that to me is glaringly obvious about this entire Covid-19 thing is how incredibly varied our immune systems are. Which is probably a very good thing in evolutionary terms, but is hell on us as individuals.

(31,261 posts)I felt nothing. I was a little tired, but because my schedule is so varied, I always am somewhat tired, so the tiredness after the shot was not out of the norm (since I had to wake up early to prepare).
I too am healthy, I have had the flu once or twice in my life and my health metrics are solid and always have been.

(312 posts)Felt alright Tuesday night, Wednesday all day felt a teeny bit tired but nothing terrible. Able to work all day and not feel out of it.
As Wednesday evening progressed, a creeping sense of malaise set in. Felt like a very mild version of the flu I had in November. Full body aches, chills, that feeling. Went to sleep feeling that way, woke up and felt fine! Only thing is my arm hurt like hell, but now as of Friday evening its a tiny bit tinder at the shot site but thats it. Feel great otherwise!

(25,857 posts)If I get such symptoms in a day or two, I won't be surprised.

(25,857 posts)So far I feel nothing, but I will post if I have any side effects. From what I'm seeing here, it will probably be a day or two. Although, considering how annoyingly healthy I am (with emphasis on annoyingly) I will probably have no side effects.
This is why I am so bad at understanding others' health issues. I really don't have any. My heart attack in December was a one-off, and my recovery has been excellent. I have any number of friends on FB who have various serious health problems, and I often think, What's wrong with you? Get over it. I do have the good sense and understanding to realize that my stance is at best unhelpful. So I don't post such things.
I honestly do try to be understanding of other people and their problems. Unfortunately, I'm not always successful.

(8,050 posts)First of all, yea for you!
I received my J&J shot on Saturday, 3/6 at the CVS about five minutes from my apt. I was moved up a tier since I'm a teacher and was part of the "Pharmacy Program."
Things could not possibly have gone smoother! I barely even felt the injection and I've had NO side effects at all. I feel so fortunate. I think I even may have felt a little buzz because I was so excited and relieved to have been vaccinated! It's now been three weeks and I will still definitely wear my mask until Dr. Fauchi says I don't need to...

(25,857 posts)When I was a little girl, up to the age of 7, I got sick A LOT. I lived in a low-income housing complex in the early 1950s where there were lots of little kids and we all played together. Also, this was before very many immunizations, so I got what was then considered the normal childhood diseases. This lasted through my kindergarten year of school. After that, I rarely got sick.
I got the remaining childhood disease, German measles otherwise known as rubella, when I was about 11. I got influenza several times in that time frame, and strongly suspect I got the one known as the Asian Flu (1957-58), which is a type A, the most virulent of the several types. The last time I got flu was sometime in the mid-1970s. I have simply not gotten it since. I don't get the flu vaccine, either, in case you're wondering.
I'm now 72 years old. In the last ten or more years I have had maybe three colds. Although that's really a function of having been exposed to enough cold viruses to now be immune to most of them.
Our immune system is designed to be challenged by a bunch of things in our youth. If we survive them (and even in the bad old days most of us did) we are now immune to those things. So, barring accidents, things like cancer, or new diseases, we live long enough to pass our knowledge and wisdom on to the younger generation.
Honestly, one of the aspects of modern medicine which worries me the most is the same thing that makes it so wonderful: we can now keep people alive who formerly would have died. And they get to reproduce. And reproduce the precise things that would have killed them off before. Is that really a good thing? It depends on who you know.
