Boston Globe: The 91st MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to be played in Atlanta this July. But on Thursday, in the wake of voting-restriction legislation signed into law by the Georgia governor, the executive director of the MLB Players Association said the players are ready to discuss moving their annual midsummer exhibition out of Georgia.

(12,937 posts)Until these latter-day Jim Crow laws are repealed, spending money in Georgia condones racism and a blatant attack on democracy.

(31,626 posts)if a half dozen or so big name golfers boycotted the Masters, what's the chance of that happening?
The all star game is just one game, why don't the Brave's players boycott the season, or do something.

(12,937 posts)Unless and until these Jim Crow voter suppression laws are repealed, Pro golfers who play at Augusta will be condoning the racist attack, as will ESPN and CBS if they cover the Masters, advertisers who pay for the coverage, viewers who watch the coverage, and golfers who buy the products of advertisers.
This is an existential threat to American democracy. We need to act like it. Georgia needs to be a pariah until this attack on democracy ends.

(3,449 posts)announced if this legislation stands that they would move their complete operations to another state. Maybe New York. That would sure put a dent in Kemp's armor.
I've stated this before in more words than now. There are only two kinds of people on this planet. Those that are assholes and those that are not assholes. Brian Kemp is an asshole! He's also most likely a fascist. Probably a Nazi wannabe. Just wants the position and power with no intentions of doing anything productive with it. Fuck him! I hope he gets hit by a bus. I hope the next time he yawns outside a bird shits in his mouth. He deserves to eat shit!

(29,250 posts)announced they were moving its headquarters to Minneapolis. Given that it merged Northwest Airlines in 2008 it would seem the logical place for it go & MSP is still a Delta hub.
Mr. Evil
(3,449 posts)alongside New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. But, with this backward Jim Crow shit rearing its head again it's like taking one step forward and then two steps backward. Corporations like Coka-Cola and Delta have the real ultimate power to stop this. If they say they are packing and leaving what would shitstains like Brian Kemp do? He's betting they won't do anything. I don't know. I think the time has come where they just might. I don't think they will risk losing billions of dollars just so he can bask in his personal racist, fascist glory.

(20,316 posts)When most people think of Minneapolis they think of George Floyd so from an image standpoint thats an issue. Also, weather.
Delta has a lot going on at MSP. I flew through there regularly pre Covid. But its not anything like the investment theyve made in Atlanta. Also GA is where the company started. It also employs a lot of people of color in the ATL metro so that would be a hit for them as well. I see very little chance their HQ is going anywhere.

(82,849 posts)All the players should check their humanity, and see if they can tolerate playing in a state that would treat their Black teammates so poorly. The upshot of all this screwing around with citizens' voting rights and access to the ballot is that the courts rule the legislation unconstitutional, but never in time to invalidate the law before an election or two are conducted under the unfair system. Then the new office holders (beneficiaries of the crooked system) go through the whole exercise again to rig the next election. And the courts can't or won't act quickly enough to conduct a free and fair election.
So if the legislative, executive, and judicial branches are all failing to create a fairer and more equitable system, it's time to withhold the almighty dollar from these connivers. The consequences move from the realm of government where the fix is in to the economic realm, where the punishment hits them where it hurts.

What the GA GOP did is a pure petty and vindictive act. It did not have the visual impact of a Bull Conor, fire hoses or German Shepards but its intent was every bit the same.
GA should be boycotted across the board by all.
