What if Georgia had a really big company that already made bottled water and could commit to distribute water free to everyone voting on Election Day. A company so big, and prominent, and important to Georgia that it wouldn't be criminally prosecuted.
Any ideas?🤔

(21,106 posts)Yeah, it sucks and is morally (and probably legally) wrong, but aren't there bigger problems than just people offering other people water?

(3,156 posts)of course there are other parts of the law that are worse. the fact that you cannot hand out water, which has practically no value other than sustaining life, to voters is something that resonates with everybody. water is what drives home the point that this is not about electioneering at the polling place, instead it's about punishing black voters. its all about being able to vote. you can count me in with the thousands of Americans who are prepared to go to GA for the next election to hand out water. I'll proudly take a felony charge for handing out water.
so yeah, it's a pretty BFD.

(82,849 posts)Matthew, chapter 25, verses 31 through 46. Pretty clear language that feeding the hungry, giving water to the thirsty, not to mention the whole tending to the sick (socialized medicine!) and visiting the imprisoned thing. Is the State of Georgia saying that I should obey men and their laws and disobey God's clear commandment?
Let the fundagelicals try to explain how the passage doesn't really mean what it plainly says.

(7,847 posts)not only do the Atlanta based multi-national conglomerates, sports franchises, and entertainment industry have to take a stand but so does every out of state venue that pours hundreds of millions of dollars into the Georgia economy...cancel, boycott and do it publicly...

(490 posts)an improper inducement in exchange for a vote, sell the water for 1¢ per bottle.
Don't know if Georgia charges sales tax on a bottle of water, but get a sales tax license just in case and oh, also take any required "food handler" training and get that certificate, so you're covered from the health and sanitation perspective.
This approach could probably also work for hungry Georgia voters stranded in long lines at the polls. I read somewhere that Chef José Andres said he's resigned to going to jail in Georgia as he feeds voters stuck in long lines. No need, Chef. Just charge a penny.
Entrepreneurial opportunity here too, to hire someone for a penny, to hold a Georgia voter's place in line while they get something to eat or drink or go to the bathroom.
I'd need to win the lottery to fund a corporation to do these things, but maybe it could be done with a nonprofit. I dunno. Let's out-think Kemp and the white racist legislators and get something in place before the next election.
It's not an improper inducement. It's a capitalist free market commercial transaction. Georgia white racists Republicans love the Invisible Hand ... and we can work to help it break off a couple of fingers stuck where the Georgia legislative sun don't shine.

Good morning!
Thinking about the proposed voter restrictions in GA, and I guess well have to sell food and water in the line. The cost is one penny.
Dont have a penny? What a coincidence! Im also trading pennies for smiles. That does not count as a gift.
