Minnesota Rep Munson Proposes Anything West of the Twin Cities is Now Part of South Dakota

GOP representatives in both California and Oregon have proposed merging with Idaho. Now a GOP state politician in Minnesota is trying to do the same thing with having western Minnesota being incorporated into South Dakota. More below

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KEYC) — Rep. Jeremy Munson (R-Lake Crystal) introduced HF2243 in the Minnesota Legislature this week.

The bill would allow rural Minnesota counties to secede from the state and join neighboring states like South Dakota.

Munson tweeted an image of his vision on Thursday that showed nearly every county west of the Twin Cities metro becoming part of South Dakota, and encouraged residents to sign a petition to join a neighboring state that he says “respects freedom and liberty.”

How about making North and South Dakota become one state? That is about as likely.

Try keeping your roads paved, hospitals staffed and lights on without Twin Cities tax payers. We've got over half the state's population in MSP alone, 3/4 of it in the greater metro area.

We get the half of the state with Duluth, all the refineries and rail lines to Chicago. Think of all the duties we could impose!

And I say this having grown up in a deep-red rural west-central part of Minnesota.

A couple years ago I viewed a proposal for redrawing state lines based on equalizing population for each new state. I am open to any suggestion to modernize the effect of governance. In the end I might totally be against the proposals, but I see nothing wrong with thinking 'out of the box'.

I do remember a suggestion for the East Coast, combining Upstate-Western New York State with northern Pennsylvania based on their similar cultural backgrounds.

from the urban parts of their state. Eastern Oregonians think Idaho would be a friendlier environment. Many in northern California and southern Oregon have longed for years to create the "Free State of Jefferson" where taxes are low, guns are a religion, and brown people are unwelcome.

If lines are re-drawn, each new state should have equal populations.

If Minnesotans aren't happy with Minnesota, they can pick up and move to the Dakotas. Same with the Rural Northern Californians and Eastern Oregonians--don't like the state you are in? Then move.

They are children. They lost. So they're going to knock the chessboard over and scatter the pieces.

Your side loses? Then your side needs better ideas.
