Top prosecutors in almost 90% of South Dakota's counties prefer a different attorney general.
That's according to the campaign of former South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley, who earlier this month announced he wants his old job back. Jackley's decision coincides with a criminal case involving Jason Ravnsborg, the first-term Republican attorney general who struck and killed a pedestrian with his vehicle last September.
Jackley's campaign team issued a news release Tuesday announcing endorsements from 59 of county state's attorneys in South Dakota's 66 counties, including Minnehaha County and Rapid City. “The county state’s attorneys are on the front lines prosecuting crimes to keep South Dakota families safe, and I am honored to have their support,” Jackley said in a statement.

Since Hyde County prosecutors in February announced they were bringing three misdemeanor traffic charges against him for his role in the crash that killed 55-year-old Joe Boever, influential officials like Gov. Kristi Noem, lawmakers and law enforcement groups have called for his resignation. Ravnsborg could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon. He pleaded not guilty to the three misdemeanor charges earlier this month.
