Are people who still support Republicans stupid or evil

Seeing as how the Republican Party is dead set on taking power in America, at the expense of the Country itself, are the people who vote for them ignorant of what is happening, or fascist racists themselves?
I know it's a little of both, but what percentages?

Many cannot break the "I've been Republican since ..." party line no matter if they want to. Others are simply being hoodwinked by leftwing media (FOX, OAN, etc.). I have family members that are still hanging on. Fear of socialism, that sort of thing. Idiots, but not horrible people, at least I don't think they are. Hard to say really.

In the days of legal Jim Crow. The educational system wasn’t the best, but the teachers did what they could with the resources available to them.

What I find surprising in my later years are the number of White people of my age group, that lack a fundamental knowledge of our form of government. What I’ve come to believe is that some White people who seem to have had all the educational opportunities just didn’t take advantage of those opportunities. Some of them lacked basic knowledge of our past (Civil Right, Vietnam, etc.) and are somewhat incurious to the issues facing us today (Climate Change, etc.). It seems to me that unless an issue slaps them in the face, they are content to reside in their comfort zone and totally indifferent to other issues/concerns that we are facing. While I subscribe to that idea that some votes for Trump due to their racist feelings, I’ve think a lot of it is due to their lack of critical thinking. They saw Trump on TV, he was portrayed as a successful millionaire and that was good enough for them.

Some are stupid, some are uneducated, some are just dumb, some are racist but as long as their comfort zone is not affected they will continue to do things that most on DU wouldn’t do.

My thoughts.

Timothy Snyder - Yale History Professor often featured on Maddow's and other MSNBC shows clarified an answer for me in his great full-page OpEd in the NY Times recently, The American Abyss. Here's a link. I don't know if there is a paywall.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/09/magazine/trump-coup.html

He described two groups - breakers and gamers. Both are taking advantage of the dumpf political moment.

The guy with the horns in the Capitol - he's a breaker.

McConnell is a gamer.

I thought it made a lot of sense and has put the question to bed in my own mind.

A few disappointments in life blamed on Democrats. A wrong headed idea that money and opportunity is taken from whites and handed to non whites who won't work. A generation of listening to pundits echoing those sentiments.

Raising the next generation who knows nothing but the toxic swill. Twisted into something almost unrecognizable.

They aren't all of them stupid. They aren't all evil.
Put some hope in their heart, a few bucks in their pocket and cut the flow of lies that gets out. The turn will not happen overnight but it can.

The conservative-republican voters are those with the least self-awareness and most self-consciousness.
They are deeply insecure in their identities and about their point of view.
This insecurity and doubt is covered up by irrational certainty in their delusions.

Those two words Define the majority. They know right from wrong, moral from immoral, and good from evil. It all boils down to their hatred of the left no matter the price. They will forsake their country, they will forsake their family, and they will forsake their friends if it means there is even a remote possibility to "STICK IT TO.THE DEMS/LIBS". It is a big reason why they embrace even the wackiest of conspiracy theories. Anyway. That's my assessment.

27. Brainwashed using Algorithms
Sat Mar 27, 2021, 05:42 PM

I think the GOP knows exactly who they are targeting for brainwashing:

1. During the Reagan years, many, many farmers lost their family farms in North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, etc yet most still vote Republican. Why?

2. The Republicans broke the many unions and drove business out of Ohio, Wisconsin, etc, yet most still vote Republican. Why?

3. During the Bush years, the great recession caused millions to lose their homes, yet many still vote republican. Why

3. The Catholic Church molested children, but people still attend the Catholic Church. Why?

The GOP can do anything they want to these voters (steal their farms, jobs, homes and innocence). The GOP exploits these voters by targeting them using algorithms - just my opinion.
