All of them.

(1,851 posts)McConnell was taking a dump in the pool long before Trump got elected.
Reagan turned the GOP into a union-busting hate fest.
Fox News and Limbaugh made ignorance and alternate facts the new conservative standards.
Racism has been with us forever.
Trump just made everything a lot worse.

(1,851 posts)You can't just blame Trump for everything. There's a lot more evil still getting done by Trump's enablers. Trump was the face of evil for the last four years, but he's not the only one we need to be fighting.
We've still got McConnell. We've still got Putin. We've still got all the racists and idiots that put Trump in power. It feels good to blame it all on Trump, but he didn't get himself elected.

(11,746 posts)Think about it and get back to me.
That's pretty rich. Nothing I've said was in defense of Trump. He is the worst of the worst. But he's not alone. Removing him from power (and keeping him out of power) cannot be our only goal. Cutting head off a hydra is not the end of the battle.

(58,785 posts)Leaders of the white Christian conservative man's party and their power blocs became desperate back in the 1990s when they finally realized that with every passing year they'd lose more and more honest elections. Changing to remain representative was rejected. Instead, we now know they decided to take over and impose what would be a police state in whatever form their authoritarian government took.
He's just a wild card increasingly angry and rabid RW populist types chose to hurry things up.

(32,099 posts)Most of the problems we are dealing with now were due to Reagan, his assault on working people and their rights, his racist assault on minorities and their rights, his corrupt war on drugs, his kow-towing to corporations, etc. They were exacerbated by the rest of his putrid, disgusting crime syndicate, including the Bush Family, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, Kevin McCarthy, that drunken, blubbering boob from Ohio/former Speaker of the House whose names escapes me at the moment, the Kochs, the Murdochs, the cretins they installed on the Supreme Court and in lower courts...

(11,746 posts)You have no need to debate with or persuade me. The people whom you need to persuade have no use for logic, and wouldn't recognize or appreciate reason if their lives depended on it. The people whom you need to persuade cannot be anything more than what they are: high right wing authoritarian followers.
They never recover. That's a fact. They will only use your logic, reason, fairness, and good faith to gaslight you. They cannot be dissuaded. They cannot handle complexity or nuance.
They are followers and so they can be demoralized and disaffected, and they have given us a scapegoat. They offered him up. They made a golden calf in his image.
I say shove their golden calf down their authoritarian throat.
All of our problems are the former guy's fault. No exception.
