refused treatment, human rights group saysGov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas signed in new legislation on Friday that allows medical professionals to refuse to treat patients because of religious or moral objections, the Associated Press reported.
The new law says that doctors and healthcare institutions can object to participating in non-emergency treatments that violate their conscience, the news agency said.
It will come into effect in the late summer, according to AP.
The legislation is facing fierce opposition from human rights activists who say that LGBTQ+ individuals could be denied treatment.

(4,514 posts)Drs, nurses and others refused to take care of them. REFUSED. They weren't fired, or even disciplined for refusing. In fact they were allowed to hold prayer meetings in the break room and locker room. Oh no, they weren't praying for the patient, they were praying for those of us working doubles 7 days a week. Not praying that god would bless us either, but that "he turn our hearts away from the perversion of the unclean and back to him" before we all went to hell too. They refused to allow us to put our clothes in the locker room, they refuse to allow us to put our lunches in the refrigerator. They threatened to have DHS take away our children and names were shouted at us as we walked to our cars....
Gradually the tide began to turn and those that refused were pushed out by those who cared. I'm retried now and I would TRULY like to believe that ANY medical professional seen engaging in refusing treatment would quickly be pushed aside by those committed to not letting all that happen AGAIN.
