'Malicious': Democrat Ted Lieu Says Dr. Birx Enabling Trump Caused Many 'Unnecessary Deaths'

Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu of California on Saturday slammed former White House Coronavirus Task Force coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx for enabling ex-President Donald Trump's COVID-19 response which allegedly caused "hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths."

Birx recently discussed the federal coronavirus response under the Trump administration with CNN's chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta in a new documentary. "I look at it this way. The first time we have an excuse," she said. "There were about a hundred thousand deaths that came from that original surge. All of the rest of them, in my mind, could have been mitigated or decreased substantially."

In response, Lieu strongly criticized Birx for wrongfully praising Trump and being complicit in the deaths through her failure to challenge the former president's "unscientific rhetoric."

"The malicious incompetence that resulted in hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths starts at the top, with the former President and his enablers," the congressman tweeted. "And who was one of his enablers? Dr. Birx, who was afraid to challenge his unscientific rhetoric and wrongfully praised him."

8. Here's My Take On Dr. Birx:

She always struck me as a weak person who could be bullied around and manipulated - and I believe that that's the main reason why Trump chose her. She may have had solid scientific credentials and expertise, but that was not why Trump chose her. Trump had a certain agenda with this pandemic that didn't involve facts or science - it did involve the political realities of it being an election year, however - and for Trump, everything else had to be subjugated to that.

I also think Birx and the others did try to get through to Trump, but NO ONE was going to keep Trump from doing what he thought was most helpful to himself. That's why Atlas was brought on board, because he told Trump what Trump wanted to hear.

I like Ted Lieu, but his comments here are over-the-top.

She should have stood up, and walked off the stage in front of the camera.
