(34,060 posts)Thanks to Locast.org (which allows me to access local over-the-air stations I lost in the analog to digital conversion in 2009).

(34,060 posts)It has been interesting having "TV" again after 12 years without it.
I've only had Netflix/Amazon since 2009, so I'm used to being able to stop and rewind when I miss something, or pausing it when I'm interrupted to pick it up later. I'd also forgotten how many commercials there are - and they seem to have declined in quality since 2009.

(25,841 posts)There were several reasons. One was that I honestly could not afford cable, and if I was going to have TV I was going to have cable. Second was that I could not afford to buy a TV. I had a VERY limited budget. Third was, and while this seems to be the least of my reasons, it was actually the most important, the cable hook-up for a TV was under the large window in the living room of the apartment I rented. To watch TV during the day would have meant closing the blinds on that window, meaning my living room would have been dark all day long. Really? Why? So I didn't purchase a TV, and left those blinds open all day. Hooray for the wonderful light here in northern New Mexico.
I quickly learned, since I had internet, that lots of thing were available on the internet. Especially coverage of important stuff. I moved here in 2008, and found that I could watch the Democratic and Republican National Conventions on line. Hooray! And on election night, I could watch the returns on line. Yes!
I've also learned that when some kind of breaking news occurs, I can simply Google TV stations in that market, and almost always they will be doing streaming broadcasting. Honestly, I don't miss much.
Plus, I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu, and so I can watch most of what I want to watch. Lucky me.

(25,841 posts)It's possible that if you were faced with my exact choice, you'd have happily chosen the TV and the blinds closed. It's not that one of us is wrong and the other is right. It's that we do have different choices.

(34,060 posts)I refuse to pay cable prices for what I always got for free until the analog to digital conversion.

(205,161 posts)And I was pleased that it was Maya Rudolph, she's likable and talented - and unlike many of the hosts they've had, I know who she is!
I was disappointed in the Cold Open, can't say I really "got it," but she did portray Kamala Harris in that later sketch, with Martin Short as the "Second Gentleman."

(420 posts)There is nothing wimpy about a man who supports his successful wife, especially Doug Emhoff. Pushing that outdated BS is so sexist. I hope they dont keep that theme going during her term. The other imitations in the skit were pretty funny though!
