Teen Driver Gets 43 Tickets After Caught Going as Fast as 148 MPH on NY Highways

So teenager's addiction to speed got him a lot of traffic as NBC New York rreports

A teen driver has been arrested and issued 43 violations after cops caught him going as fast as 148 mph on highways and roads in New York, according to the state police.

A state trooper in Orange County initially clocked the driver of the 2003 Infiniti G35 going 117 mph in the town of Goshen just after 10 a.m. Sunday, police said. As the officer tried to catch up the speeding driver on State Route 17 (which has a speed limit of 65 mph), the driver allegedly weaved in between cars without signaling while cutting off other vehicles.

The driver eventually got off the highway and tried to hide in a park-and-ride lot. The state trooper saw the car and was walking up to the vehicle to speak with the driver, when the car took off, state police said. The trooper was able to get get the license plate information before the car sped away, however.

Police say the car got back on Route 17 east and headed to Interstate 87 south. The trooper followed, but ended the pursuit for safety reasons after reaching 148 miles per hour.

The trooper determined that the plate number belonged to another vehicle out of New York City. The owner of that vehicle was located, and the investigation uncovered that the owner is a relative of the suspected speeder.

Combing social media, the trooper found pictures with the suspect beside the Infiniti G35 with the switched plate. With help from the New York City Police Department (NYPD), they found the car and driver in Queens.

If this kid was navigating crowded highways and streets at 150 MPH, and had the skills (and forethought) to quickly change the license plates, he was already a pro, out taunting the cops for a good time, and endangering the lives of everyone else on the road.

Put him in some unpleasant detention for a year, with the option of of taking two years of helping the highway patrol out with tips on how to catch people like him in exchange for not serving four years more (Frank Abagnale style).

I read Orange county, and didn't look too closely after that, although I did wonder about the other car being in Queens.
