Then when it's out of the canal, refuel it.

Alternately get some lines from shore to some big ass bulldozers and straighten it out?

is going to make the vessel top heavy and more likely to capsize. They have to be careful when pushing or pulling it, because strain on the hull from forces it wasn't built to withstand raise the risk of hull fracture.

That ship is too large. It shouldn't have been allowed to go through anyway, certainly not with the winds that day. Anything that large is just one big sail.

They lose so much maneuverability when they pump out (so that they can navigate areas more shallow that Pan-amax depth of 56-58).

A cargo ship fell over in St Simons Island last year for trying to make a quick turn with not enough ass in the water.

They had to cut it up in sections to remove it from the shallow sand bar it landed on at the tow line of the channel.

I watched them build the rig to do it.

I was on a cruise ship anchored and waiting about 60 miles off the Texas coast and they decided to send us to Miami (before returning to Galveston) for a free extended 5 day cruise. SWEET! I only spent $28 in those extra 5 days because everything was either free or 1/2 price

Tankers were lined up across the entire sea as far as you could see

ships all start making a beeline for the entrance to the canal at the same time!

I would hope they have some way of sequencing them to avoid a massive traffic jam, but I'm not going to bet large amounts of money on it.

The trip around Africa is dangerous and costly. It's better to sit and wait and call in supplies if needed.

Maybe have gangways between them?

That's my guess.
