(83,654 posts)Trump knew in the very beginning. The interview with Woodword. He knew and didn't give a shit. With malice and forethought he watch Americans die. He is not responsible for the virus. He is responsible for ignoring the magnitude and proved his incompetence. Then he played golf.

(67,086 posts)couldn't figure out (and still can't) what this con artist was/is about is beyond me. Now I see some groups for Trump 2024. A total WTF!!!
I hope he and his are so tied up in courts they won't see the light of day, EVER.

(62,265 posts)...before we hit 100k deaths. In fact that is in part why it blew up so big. Damn thing is very harmless to a huge number of the population but very, very deadly to another portion. Hopefully by the time the next pandemic hits we release the mRNA based vaccine very quickly (the current vaccine candidate was developed weeks after its discovery). Since mRNA vaccines are a new special class and are proven safe you can do a public, wide scale, in place test of various candidates. Stop the next one in its tracks.
And hope our memory isn't short for how devastating these pandemics can be.

(64,852 posts)Per CDC, the data shows we should expect 34,000-43,000 flu deaths per year, with some unusual years as low as 12k & others as high as 60k. (BTW, that 60k year was also during T---p's term.)
The midpoint of the expected range is 38,500 PER YEAR. That's 740 a week.
Now flu is seasonal, so let's call the season October through March. The smoothed out average doubles to around 1,480 per week.
With COVID, we went over 38k deaths on April 15th, 2020. That's around 4,600 A WEEK! Then by May 13th, we went over 88k deaths. 4 more weeks, 40,000 more deaths. So obviously 10,000 per week.
At that point, it was already 6 to 7 times more deadly than the flu. And, on May 13, the 7 day moving average of daily deaths was about the same as the weekly, (in season), deaths from the flu. Again, 6 to 7 times more deadly.
Somewhere between 10,000-30,000 deaths it was obvious this was a powerful killer.
Yes, by 100,000 it was unavoidably obvious. But, it was obvious long before that!
