1. That's actually an excellent idea. The terminology does matter. And that is a better phrase.

My first impulse was to think, "Oh, FFS, let's stop coddling the gun humpers." But terminology is one of the areas that we Democrats do not excel in, and we tend to discount its immense importance.

Think pro life vs. anti abortion. The words matter.

We should do this. We should refer to it as gun safety instead of gun control.

The NRA used to be for sportsmen, hunters and gun safety.

Now it has become an industry owned shill for the sale of more guns and the enrichment of its leaders.

4. Give the gun fetishists an inch and they'll take a mile.

Most people don't care enough about guns to bother owning one.

Many people have a gun or two safely locked away for hunting and other utilitarian purposes. That's not a problem.

Then there is GUN LOVE, with too many dangerous people feeding off that negative energy, everyone from fourteen year old gangsters to mass murdering psychopaths. This is the gun culture that needs to die.

The gun industry doesn't want that to happen. It's the gun fetishists who buy most of the guns. They can go to hell.

We are a society of addicts. We just pick our addictions.

Specifically, "gun safety" advocates have to stop with selective gun ban proposals is they want to be taken seriously.

I will say that there have been good efforts with Red Flag laws, the Manchin-Toomey background check proposal, and safe-storage proposals (although not all) that really are about gun safety.

Gun control is a boogeyman, especially when approaching Red State politicians. It's much harder for them to state they're against any kind of safety.
