Anthony Fauci Names The Trump Moment That Shocked Him: Like A Punch To The Chest'

Dr. Anthony Fauci said one of then-President Donald Trump’s moves last year early in the pandemic left him shocked.

“The thing that hit me like a punch to the chest was then all of a sudden he got up and said ‘Liberate Virginia, Liberate Michigan,’” Fauci said on a CNN special on Sunday. “And I said to myself, ‘Oh my goodness. What is going on here?’”

Fauci was referring to a series of Trump tweets in support of right-wing protests against measures meant to stop the spread of the virus, including measures recommended by his own administration.

“LIBERATE MINNESOTA!” “LIBERATE MICHIGAN!” “LIBERATE VIRGINIA,” Trump wrote in various messages in April, egging on the demonstrators.

“It shocked me because it was such a jolt to what we were trying to do,” Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious diseases expert, said.

had he taken this pandemic and approached it with honesty rather than narcissistic self interests and done the right thing, he may have garnered enough support to win re-election. Instead he chose the selfish path of ego gratification and thought he could bullshit his way into selling his toxic lies. The pandemic and his laissez faire decision to lie kicked his own ass. Ironically this will lead to his legacy as a criminal and the worst president in US history being cemented for all time.

trump might take this semi-seriously. Recall that others on the team (Redford, Birx) said that he listened when they said the U.S. should shut down China travel. It was a major move and one trump would cling to in the future when he was accused of not doing enough.

You have to think back to what things looked like at that time. Sure, in retrospect, it looks naive. It also would look naive to people like us, who watched trump like a hawk and posted about his every incompetent move from the moment he won the electoral college. But that is not these people. They're scientists, and not necessarily political mavens.

Though I am thankful that we have Dr. Fauci’s wonderful expertise, I don’t quite understand anyone being ‘shocked’ at what Trump was doing at the time.

While working in the hospital at the onset of the pandemic I was blown away by what was coming out of Trump’s team day-to-day.

When I mentioned to a colleague how upset I was with Fauci’s refusal to speak out she said ‘I’m sure he doesn’t want to lose his job’- She had family who had worked with and knew Dr. Fauci well + thought the world of him.

At first, we were being told not to wear masks in patient’s rooms because “It might scare them”.

Every day the CDC guidelines were changing- in ridiculous ways. I remember telling one of the nurses, Today they (CDC) are saying that if you have been exposed to someone who tests positive and u don’t have any symptoms u can just keep coming to work.

Having worked for the NIH for 14 years I was stunned.
Honesty and integrity are a must in clinical research.
Fauci, Brix and Redfield should have quit and spoken out right away.
Shame on them for trying to restore their reputations now.

If they had all stepped down together, that would have had a huge impact (I'd like to think). Now they're relegated to doing what so many other political appointees over the years have tried to do - salvage their reputation after failing to show true courage when it mattered most.

Birx isn't getting off to a good start, as she's now working for an air filtration company whose product is so hazardous that it's banned in California. http:// https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/mar/24/deborah-birx-joins-air-cleaning-company

That is all anyone needs to know just how perverse the Orange Mass Murderer operates. I do believe a openly serial liar like tRump deserves no crumb of credibility. I only wish the Birx's and Redfield's would have stood up to this homicidal megalomaniac early on. Dr. Fauci was in a very tough spot to speak out.

was a little "silver spoon" hanging on a chain around your neck. I imagine silver wouldn't be good enough for Drumpf, though, like you said. Of course back then silver was about $4 an ounce, and gold was less than $300. It was a status symbol. I was never involved with the silly affectations of the cocaine culture. I found that a rolled up $1 bill worked just as well as a $100 bill. Go figure!

Not only did they 'yawn' - they gave him tons and tons of free coverage because he was good, controversial news.
Instead of doing good journalistic background coverage and in-depth history of the jerk, they just kept putting him on the front page and expected someone/anyone else to expose the truth about the snake.
