More than a dozen states to open vaccines to all adults

By MICHELLE R. SMITH and TERRY TANG

More than a dozen states will open vaccine eligibility to all adults this week in a major expansion of COVID-19 shots for tens of millions of Americans amid a worrisome increase in virus cases and concerns about balancing supply and demand for the vaccines.

Meanwhile, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday that she had a recurring feeling of “impending doom” about a potential fourth wave of infections after cases in the U.S. rose 10% over the last week. She pleaded with Americans not to relax preventative practices such as social distancing and mask-wearing.

“Just please hold on a little while longer,” Dr. Rochelle Walensky said during a White House briefing. Several Northeastern states and Michigan have seen the biggest increases, with some reporting hundreds or thousands more new cases per day than they were two weeks ago.

1. I am OK with getting the vaccine to as many people as possible

I myself am older and having a hard time finding an appointment - the odds seem to be stacked against people who sleep during the day. But the way I see it, the more people who get the shot, the better. It's all good. Everyone keep masking though!

starting April 1st. I may also be able to get my sister in with me since that is part of the new plan. 16 year olds can get sshots on April 15th now as well.

"Newsom said family members accompanying currently eligible people can get a vaccine too, "no questions asked."

"Gavin Newsom also announced that everyone 50 and over will be able to make an appointment to receive a shot starting April 1 based on an expected increase in vaccine supply, which up until now has been limited".

"California is expanding the list of people who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, opening it up to everyone 16 and older starting April 15, it was announced Thursday."

If so, download their app and you can schedule an appointment via it. I can't attest to when, but it will be an appointment at least.

8. I went to the CVS Pharmacy site and got an appointment for

two days after I signed up.

President Biden is more than doubling the number of pharmacy sites this week and opening a number more mass vaccination sites.

I suggest that you keep trying.

BTW, I made my appointment for the first shot at like 2am in the morning.

13. What state do you live in?

I got mine in a Florida smaller city. Some of the midsized cities that didn’t have a mass vaccination site showed up as book, but my city showed up as available.

The CVS site was not idea, literally it was four people, only one actually vaccinating, so it was slow.

What I hope that President Biden does with the new mass vaccination sites is set them up in mid-sized cities, currently in Florida, they are only in the largest population areas, so the closest mass sites to me are 80 or 90 miles away. My area is in a semi-urban/semi-rural six-plex of counties that have around 2 million people, so setting up mass vaccination in say the middle of that six-plex would get shots into many arms fast.

Texas

it's hard with my hours - I usually wake up at 3PM and Monday is the only week day I have off so I never have an easy time with appointments! Today I spent my "allotted" time with a needle in my arm for 101 minutes, donating a double dose of platelets! (I heard an urgent appeal on my car radio)

15. I believe that more of the mass vaccination sites will be walk in.

If you get one close to you, walk in on the first Monday that it opens.

Unfortunately, a person has to be in line and be checked in before 5pm at every site, I believe. So that makes things difficult for you.

Walmart and Walgreens are also vaccinating at some stores. Look at their availability. The CDC site may have a list of other vaccination partners in Texas, outside of the ones that I listed, check there, then look at scheduling a shot ASAP.

2. The impending doom is a valid concern
Mon Mar 29, 2021, 08:49 PM

Two weeks ago I noted that cases had plateaued, and that I expected them to go up. I was correct, as I have been in virtually every prediction throughout this pandemic.

I am now having a "warm" discussion with someone in another thread who has decided that going out to eat indoors in restaurants is a personal risk they are willing to take, as if it only impacts them.

So even here, among people most concerned about containing the virus, people are ignoring safety precautions in favor of self-interest.

9. I believe, that in Europe, the only place where Covid rates are not rising
Mon Mar 29, 2021, 09:16 PM

is Great Britain. But, in addition to being the highest vaccinated European area, Great Britain has also had a pretty strict lockdown since January.

Israel is seeing rising rates among younger people, and it is a higher vaccinated country.

My daughter gets hers this week. They are opening it up to all food service on the 31st so she's eligible and already has her first and second appointment scheduled. April 9 her university has a mass clinic scheduled for that first day of open eligibility.
