(54,811 posts)CA now allows those over 50 to get vaccinated. I expect it to take 6 months for herd immunity to be in place.

(37,852 posts)I think there are enough anti-vaxxers to stop it, worldwide speaking.
Just a gut feeling.

(54,811 posts)If there is enough to vaccinate everyone it will need to be a PR campaign and a political one.

(10,599 posts)Not just Worldwide. Just in the U.S. alone.
I think we'll struggle to reach 70% vaccinated when all is said and done.
The sudden availability of the vaccine to all, when we're still in March, is not the great sign everybody thinks it is. I believe it has more to do with the number of anti-vaxxers, rather than the wonderful job President Biden is doing with distribution.
I really hate humanity, and more specifically, America. It's unfortunate that some 30-35% will totally and utterly Fuck things up for the remaining 65-70% who are being responsible.

(3,340 posts)10m shots last weekend and going higher. That is a supply chain humming along with federal government help. Having that increased supply and distribution is paying off.
What is the total well get? I would bet over 70% but with campaign we can get to 75-80%.

(58,785 posts)with a sharp stick, whichever works first. These aren't our best people, and that also works for us in this case. They can tell their friends they've been vaccinated or not, as they choose, but the social stigma and condemnation from others is only going to rise.
And, fwiw, vaccination is not the only way to control this. Treatments are becoming much better, which will lessen infectiousness and shorten infectious periods. When cases are much less common, they'll be identified and addressed much faster than possible now to stop spread in communities among the unvaccinated, and those will present opportunities to keep vaccinating.
Congrats, Demtenjeep!

(58,785 posts)ike SARS1. Effectively at least so that, like SARS1, we someday wonder where it still exists and might pop up again.
The CDC's new report, of course, that vaccines keep a large majority of those vaccinated from becoming infected and thus unable to silently host and spread the virus.
None of us can know which of us are among the 80-90% who won't be able to spread, and we're beginning a fourth surge, so protections are still hugely important, but it looks like the dread specter of more and worse variants developing from inability to control is eventually going to become much less, and then less and less still.
