"We are not supporting doing any vaccine passports in the state of Florida," he said at the press conference, according to 10 Tampa Bay. "It's completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply be able to participate in normal society.
DeSantis added, "You want to go to a movie theatre, should you have to show [a vaccine passport]? No. You want to go to a game, should you have to show that? No. You want to go to a theme park? No. We're not supportive of that."
If Deathsantis is against vaccine passports, then they have to be a good idea

(15,088 posts)If DISNEY decides to require it, what is he going to do? Im hearing from friends who live in Orlando that Walt Disney World, unlike the rest of Florida, has stringent masking and distancing requirements. That place is a huge part of the states economy.

(9,110 posts)announce that they wont home port any ships in Florida until conditions change. A couple of cruise lines are already talking about homeporting ships out of Nassau (The Bahamas). I suspect that other lines might not only start sailing out of Freeport, but other lines might ship to San Juan, the ABC islands, or Cozumel.
Note that Im not talking about the US Gulf Coast. Theres a reason for that: thats because Republican governors like Abbott (TX), Reeves (MS), and Ivey (AL) are as likely as not going to follow in De Santis lunatic footsteps.
John Bel Edwards of Louisiana, a Democrat, almost certainly has the good sense not to ignore medical professionals. New Orleans might take up some of the slackif the Republican-controlled Louisiana state legislatures doesnt kneecap him.
I think its becoming increasingly clear that the Republican Party is less and less capable of governing honestly or competently.
During the last election, Republicans ran against Hugo Chavez socialism. Venezuela is a mess as much due to its governments incompetence as to socialist bogiemen. Florida, OTOH, is run by incompetent Republicans. The time may yet come when the difference of FL incompetence and VZ incompetence is merely a matter of degree.

I used to go down there 2-3 times a year to visit resorts and extended family.
I noticed something fucked up with the state. If I drive there or get a rental with out-of-state tags, Floridians like to fuck with me. If I get in-state rentals or use relative's cars, no one fucks with me. Same driver. This has been observed over perhaps 25-30 visits. I take my $7K tourist money to other states. Now, ones that aren't Red.
I stopped going there just because it is so fucked up to hear people casually dropping the n-word and the like.

DS wants businesses to have the freedom to decide whether or not masks are required. BUT
He doesn't want businesses to have the freedon to require vaccinations. Now guess the political party afffiliation of those who do not get vaccinations and who still think COVID is a hoax or just the flu. Whose orders is he following?

(95,243 posts)The usual 'no shirt, no shoes, no service' ought to apply, I should think. Any private business has the right to refuse service, and I cannot see how a governor's decree establishes a 'protected class' under laws barring discrimination in public accommodation.

(34,095 posts)a little bit of a PITA but hardly worth worrying about. Keep it with you with your drivers license, you have to have that for proof at times, what is the difference?
These guys have nothing to back this up except political moves to keep the assholes who are just like that happy.
I hope the rest of Florida is smarter than to fall for that stupid move. Wait until people just stop going there. I have a friend who just went there with other friends. They are going to mask and distance from others but I have not spoken with him since he came back. I would guess they found themselves uncomfortable more than not.

(15,705 posts)You really think it can happen provide a vaccine passport to every citizen. Will a picture be included? Sounds unworkable. I can see fraud passports being a huge business.

(34,095 posts)It shows when and where and what and who, me and who administered the vaccine. It would be easy to verify, it would take time but easy to verify.
I believe everyone who gets their vaccine gets one of those.

(3,689 posts)A vaccine passport idea is not dependent upon, does not reflect, identity politics.
A private business requiring a vaccine passport is not discriminating based upon identity, but rather upon behavior.
No shoes, no shirt, no immunity card...
People refusing to have a vaccine passport are not a protected class and refusal may be a sign of bad behavior; anti-ubuntu behavior.
