Jayapal Calls on Biden to Fire T---- -Appointed Social Security Officials Who Delayed Covid Relief

Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) called on President Joe Biden to fire two Trump-appointed Social Security Administration officials––SSA Commissioner Andrew Saul and Deputy Commissioner David Black––after House Democrats accused them of “sabotaging” the effort to distribute direct coronavirus relief payments to tens of millions of seniors and people with disabilities.

“It is appalling and outrageous that holdovers from the Trump Administration at the Social Security Administration have delayed the delivery of survival checks to 30 million Americans, including veterans, seniors, and people living with disabilities. This is not a game – for millions of people, these checks are a lifeline to put food on the table, refill prescriptions, and put gas in the car,” Jayapal said in a statement. - PoliticusUSA

Insider sabotage. Kind of like you can expect all of the T---- to muck things up. Fire them all!!

Someone has to be around who's qualified and ready to step in, be they temporary or permanent replacements. A large organization does not turn on a dime.

And now they have.
Sen Sherrod Brown & several Dems have called for their removal a month ago.
Now that there is sufficient reason, Biden can do so.

The case for removal has already been called for a month ago by Sen Sherrod Brown. Followed several weeis later again by Reps. John Larson (D-Conn.), Danny Davis (D-Ill.), and Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-N.J.)7

The reason for removal is now strengthed sufficiently for President Biden to do so.
And he will.

While Saul’s term doesn’t expire until 2025 and federal law states that the SSA commissioner can only be removed for “neglect of duty or malfeasance in office,” Social Security Works and the pair of unions argue that Supreme Court precedent set by Seila Law LLC v. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau gives Biden the authority to fire Saul. They also argue that Saul’s conduct in office amounts to “neglect of duty.”

Black, too, was confirmed in 2019 for a six-year term, but Social Security Works notes (pdf) that federal law “does not protect him from removal for any reason.”

Any argument by Republicans that claim Saul & Black cannot be removed due to their term limits, is now moot. They have both given President Biden sufficient reason to now remove them regardless of a term limit defense.

Glad to see Sen Sherrod Brown & Reps. John Larson (D-Conn.), Danny Davis (D-Ill.), and Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-N.J), already preparing the case for removal a month ago.

Am quite certain Trump's goal for a second term was to sabatogue the institutions of our democracy we've always held dear, like the USPS & of course SS, and then end those programs, saying they no longer work.

Am sure USPS & SS weren't the only ones on the chopping block.
His mission was to simply remove American govt & replace it with one more like Bolsanaro, Putin or Kim jong.

He made a solid attempt & if not for electing Biden we'd be looking at our Democracy as a memory.
At least we still have hope that his damage done can be reversed.

Yikes.

And watch out, they also want it to appear that only the Republicans know how to manage the economy and the nation.

I have not received mine, but I know know several in the SS only group that got theirs real quick, but they were registered Republicans.

yet. She's quadriplegic and lives with us...and we are doing well, with no adverse financial impact from the pandemic (so far, knock on wood)... so the delayed relief payment is not having a negative effect on her life, but I was surprised this financially vulnerable population would still be waiting.
