She identified herself as a firefighter EMT and they told her to get back.

It's like everyone testifying is crying on the stand.

(11,133 posts)Devastating testimony.
Budi
(15,325 posts)The video, the testimony, the EMT.
As for the cops that stood there preventing any assistance to save Floyd's life, they are all equally culpable

He's trying to lead the witness. She's not having it tho. 👍
Glad the camera focused on the hand wringing.

(7,447 posts)1. That Floyd was a danger and the cops were scared of him.
2. That Chauvin wasn't departing from police procedure
3. Even if you don't believe 1 and 2, that the proximate cause of Floyd's death was drugs, not the knee on his neck.
I'm not carrying water for any of those defense's, just listing what I would expect to see.
Budi
(15,325 posts)Create doubt, question memory or credibility of witnesses, & all they need is that ONE Juror.
And that's who the defense is directing this case towards.
Just one juror.
BobTheSubgenius
(11,560 posts)The "exculpatory" testimony would annoy me no end, if I was a juror. I'd feel that the defence is taking the jury for idiots. "I was so afraid, I completely forgot I was kneeling on a man's neck."
It would be insulting to the intelligence of a parakeet.

(7,271 posts)I'm a bit behind on the details of the prosecutions. On my walk with my neighbor, he said because the other officers were in "training".
That's a pretty effed up training session.
dem4decades
(11,270 posts)And maybe rightly so.
Budi
(15,325 posts)As you watch Chauvin, knee on Floyd's neck, his hand in his pocket putting extra force on his knee, there is just no possible reason to find him not guilty or any lesser crime than what's being presented.
He knew what he was doing & got the result he intended.
He killed Floyd in broad daylight, & protected from any interferance, by the badge.

(15,325 posts)I don't know the whole story but do recall there was some familiarity between the two.
Would have to research that part, but its an interesting point if Chauvin knew the man he murdered.
Irish_Dem
(46,579 posts)Chauvin seemed immediately hellbent on murdering Floyd in cold blood. In such a way he thought he could get away with.
Chauvin refused to listen to his peers and just kept increasing the pressure on Floyd's neck.
I would think good detectives could find out what Chauvin's motivation for killing Floyd might be in light
of the fact they worked previously in the same place.
Could show some pre-meditation perhaps and establish the basis for a 1st degree murder charge.
Budi
(15,325 posts)The premeditation is interesting.
Plus Chauvin is just the asshole to fulfill a grudge if given the opportunity.
Irish_Dem
(46,579 posts)So many possible scenarios: If the girls liked Floyd, and they rejected Chauvin.
Or Chauvin got too rough with the customers and Floyd told him to back off.
Chauvin would be the kind of guy to hold a grudge and even the score in his mind, yes just as you say.
Of course it is possible that there was no back story, no pre-meditation and Chauvin thought murdering a POC was a way to show off to new cops.
Anyway we slice it, Chauvin deserves a life sentence in my book.

(6,800 posts)IIRC, both were bouncers at the same bar at the same time., but don't quote me on that.
Also, I don't know what the issue was, but if I had to guess, I''d say Chauvin did something horribly unprofessional and Floyd called him out.
Being (rightly) corrected by someone he (mistakenly) considered inferior would be just the kind of incident that would turn this petty little jerk into a murderer.
Irish_Dem
(46,579 posts)Women or power issues.
I can see Chauvin getting too rough with customers and Floyd telling him to chill.
Or the girls flirting with Floyd and not Chauvin.
I know it is speculation, but this is what detectives do when searching for motivations.
This murder is not like the usual shoot and kill police murder.

(21,347 posts)body language of Chauvin were so awful that I got nauseous and shuddered when I saw the video, thinking of the poor man being slowly and deliberately murdered. I only saw the video once and cannot get the image out of my mind.
I assume that Chauvin's background was checked for possible connections to hate groups. I'm surprised that no one has turned up associations with one of them.
I can't imagine ANY defense that would hold up against the video and the witnesses.

(46,579 posts)As he arrived on the Floyd scene.
Chauvin had that cocky, arrogant expression and walk even as he was getting out of the squad car.
It gave me the creeps. I have not gotten that out of my mind. So from the beginning he was loaded for bear.

(4,239 posts)that he was dying, she asked to help, she asked to help direct the officers to do medical assist. She wanted to call an ambulance & fire, she wanted to get an automated external defibrillator (AED) from a local gas station. She was so concerned & so frustrated. She had me in tears. George Floyd was murdered.

(4,316 posts)She even described it as seeing man being killed.
joshcryer
(62,269 posts)Because the lawyer knows if he objected to that, it would have been sustained. This is the words the prosecution wanted to be stated on the record.
"There was a man being killed..." is now on the record from with expert testimony.

(35,625 posts)and they knew what was going on was wrong. They say that. One even "sensed" it before he saw it. They tried to stop it. The police, however, would have nothing of it.

(16,162 posts)Not only the monster chauvin but the other cops who abetted or let it happen.
The witnesses have all been regretful that they didnt do something to stop it even the one who was only 17 at the time.
And here is this young woman who educated herself to be able to save lives, who deals with 1 to 5 pulse less people in a typical 24-hour shift, who clearly cares about her fellow human beings standing in bright contrast to the disgusting murderers who intentionally snuffed the life out of a man and refused to allow her to help save him.

(21,842 posts)the firefighter said she didn't read it because she didn't want to. The other day the lady who worked at the Speedway didn't read her transcript either.
If I was a witness I would think I would want to re-read my transcript.
rgbecker
(4,820 posts)Recalling what you saw three days after the event, then watch a few videos that show you completely got it wrong. Example: She said she thought she saw four cops sitting on Floyd, then of course saw that there were only 3. Did anyone allow her to correct the transcript? Did they show her the videos before she made the statements? Then she has to take weird questions about whether she remembers making the statement: Yes or No? Then, "Here read this...does this jog your memory". If she answers yes, she remembers making the statement, the jury is supposed to think she meant, yes there were 4 cops on Floyd?
Pretty crappy, if you ask me. If the trial is to determine the facts, this ain't the way to do it.

(833 posts)she'd know to keep out of it. This is backwards. He was saying, "You should know how this works. We get to kill black men." He should have said, "Come on over and check his vitals. We'd welcome your help" If Thao is called, prosecutors should ask him about that.
Beringia
(4,316 posts)I don't know how trials work, but I would think they wouldn't want Officer Thao to testify until it is his trial.
