Amid calls for boycotts of Georgia sporting events, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank released a statement on Tuesday speaking against recently passed SB 202.
Georgia state legislators passed the bill last week before Gov. Brian Kemp signed it into law. The law limits the number of drop boxes across the state, increases voter ID requirements and gives state-level officials in Republican-controlled Georgia power over county election boards that oversee ballot counts.
Arthur Blank: 'Make voting easier, not harder'
In a statement released Tuesday, Blank described the right to vote as "sacred" while calling "to make voting easier, not harder."
"Every voice and every vote matters and should be heard through our democratic process in Georgia," Blank's statement reads. "The right to vote is simply sacred. We should be working to make voting easier, not harder for every eligible citizen.

(2,248 posts)Like, didn't they read the news or anything?? Every one of them need to address what they tried to do before the vote was taken.
Easy to say after it is all said and done.

(1,416 posts)They are all talking about voting restrictions, which is very important, but the most frightening part has not been mentioned in any of their statements. The bill gives the state legislature the authority to overturn any election results that they don't approve of. Is this not being addressed because the businesses are okay with that part of the legislation?
I believe in my heart that the people will find a way to cast their ballot, be it easy or hard. If they have to stand in line for 10 hours because of lack of polling locations and broken down equipment, I think they will because they know it is important to have their voices heard. But having the legislature take control of the results and overturn the election...how do you remedy that?
I wish the really scary parts would be addressed more. It drove me nuts when the focus was all on giving people water when they were standing in line.

(25,979 posts)The remedy for poor performance of legislators is to remove them through the vote. No legislature should have the power to subvert that vote. The danger is obvious. SB 202 cannot be allowed to stand.
