(13,812 posts)Sometimes the dignified thing to do is to put a lame animal out of it's misery, that is what Biden did.

(452 posts)People aren't buying what you say. You can have 10,000 post and they would still smell you out. Doom and Gloom is does not work here. Your concern is noted DoomSayer. Oh BTW I have a low post count and I do not buy what you are saying. Biden was great at the Debate. Biden did what he was suppose and gave great on the message he was suppose to give. Undecided loved Biden so we aren't buying what you are selling do not blame your low post count.

(25 posts)Winning is what I'm talking about....imagine the take on the debates if Joe Biden would have simply acted better, he won the debate....but he could have won so much more.

(452 posts)I want to see more Dems come out fighting like Joe Biden did on that debate.

(9,314 posts)political subtlety, political savvy and political professionalism, but thanks for your concern.
"Our side" is perfectly happy with VP Biden's performance.

(27,310 posts)a regular guy. He's not "groomed" to be a candidate.
That is one thing I like about him. My only criticism of his performance is the interrupting. I hate that in real life, too. But the agressive passion and the casualness of his demeanor, I am OK with that.

(2,593 posts)I say fight with passion which does not always come across as "courteous".

(13,704 posts)A Democrat wants to know. You can be sure Biden knows how to 'play it'.

(47,517 posts)Because we had a lot of people join recently who clearly aren't democrats but just pretend to be.

(16,230 posts)It isn't the low post counts. It's the content of the posts. And yes, if someone comes here and says "God awful anti-Democrat postings" then they're likely to have a problem. Such things are against this website's rules. It's a privately owned board and they can set whatever rules they want. Are you against private property? Are you against the owners controlling their property?
But there is such a thing as constructive criticism, now granted, I get offended about once every 10 years, but I do beleive Biden could have capitalized on the debate more by simply acting better.

That would have gone over really well.
Or Biden could've just sat there quietly while Ryan lied and lied some more.
How refreshing it is to have a politician that actually enjoys debating.

gblady
(3,552 posts)rude and overbearing during his presentation.....constantly talking over and interrupting both Obama and Leher.
and Ryan looks and sounds like a snake oil salesman....
So....IMHO, the Democrats were much more stylish.

(21,946 posts)and got knocked for it..Joe called a spade a spade and got knocked for it.
Methinks its okay to run for the highest offices in the land and lie to the public on national t.v. if you're republican..but not if you're a Democrat.
It's alright to be shovey-pushy under the same circumstance if you're republican but not a Democrat.
Do I dectect a double standard??
Darn tootin I do...and that's not all right!
if the republican candidates can shove, push and lie, the Democrat can shove and push all they want..lie..no.
It's like I told my son..you haven't won ANY debate if most of what you say is a lie.
Nuff said.
Change has come

(84 posts)As a fellow member with a low post count, I say, what are you talking about?
Who is more appealing in their presentation?
I don't know - maybe our very presidential president, and his compassionate, honest VP?
Dignified, courteous, polite?
Doesn't really define Romney at the debate last week, but that doesn't seem to bother you.
Whereas President Obama was all those things - see where it got him.
I sometimes feel like the long-time posters are too fast to jump on Newbies, but your post just asks for doubt about your sincerity.

(28,876 posts)Very suspect.
Barack_America
(28,876 posts)Obama and Biden are more appealing in their presentations because they respect the American people enough to tell the truth.
markpkessinger
(8,935 posts)... But let's be honest here, shall we? These debates aren't about convincing "undecided" voters (does that category even exist in such a polarized political climate?). They are about energizing those who are already in your camp such that they will be motivated to go out and vote for you. Biden didn't do anything any worse than what Romney did last week with his interruptions and talking over both opponent and moderator. Pundits declared Romney the winner on style in that debate, and Obama the winner on substance. In this case, if you ask me, Biden won it hands down on both counts.
Some of us have been around long enough, and have followed politics closely for long enough, to know that you don't get any points in these exercises of political theater we pretend to call "debates" by channeling Emily Post. I think for many Americans, Biden's calling out Romney the way he did was a breath of fresh air -- something that has been needed for a long while. Romney/Ryan are frauds, and they seek to defraud the American people concerning what they stand for. There is nothing undignified or unpresidential in doing so in a direct, straightforward way. Would that more politicians would do the same!
Time for change
(13,737 posts)Ryan was lying through his teeth, and Biden sought to make that clear to the American people -- which in my opinion was very important for him to do. I thought he was plenty polite enough. The lies that Ryan was telling were not benign. They were very serious, and would cause our country great harm if believed by enough people. So in my opinion it behooved the VP to vigorously correct those lies. I see nothing unprofessional whatsoever about Biden's performance.

(29,346 posts)As to your surprise that someone who "comes here and says God awful anti-Democrat postings" gets a negative response -- I'm not sure what you expect on a site called "democratic underground."
I was using the term "God awful anti-Democrat postings" as an extreme example.
My argument is simply style could sometimes trump substance.

(23,616 posts)But yet a lot of people on the right and some on the left said he won and look "presidential". I think he looked like a jackass. Biden acted like the man I have liked for many years and that's why I like him, I don't like the bullshitters.
Wounded Bear
(64,661 posts)Biden acted like many, many millions of people feel towards Republicans. We're tired of Republicans polishing the same old turd, spraying it down with Febreze and trying to re-market it as "new and improved." It's the same old song and dance, but the costumes are frayed, and the smiles have been reduced to grimaces.
Biden reacted to Ryan's bullshit the right way, with derisive laughter. Joe may have "seemed" unprofessional, but you know what? He's Joe. He's Joe the Average guy in ways that fucking Joe the Plumber can't even dream about. And he's OUR Joe.
He just Gibbs slapped a punk, a punk who has been labeled "The Brains of the Republican Party" or some similar bullshit. Frankly, if that is the "intellectual leader" of the Republican Party, they're in worse shape than even I thought, and I thought they were pretty fucked up.
I could give a shit less how many posts anybody has. Hell, I don't have that many. I have to work for a living.
People with good ideas, well thought out and proffered here get my read.

(30,151 posts)you really expect me to believe that you are concerned because he didn't act "dignified"...
Give me a fucking break. Ryan is a stupid fuck that just happens to have more lines memorized than Palin was able to put in her two cycle brain. Biden should have called him a little dipshit but that's where he has class and I don't.
Two questions for you-
A: How old are you
B: How old do you think the planet Earth is

(42,770 posts)At this point, the election appears to be swinging on feelings and style and not facts whatsoever. I believe that this is something R&R have figured out. Lay low, say what you want, and put forth a positive and respectful demeanor.
It turns out that it has been the worst two weeks to inflict wounds on ourselves. Although Joe brilliantly volleyed back every falsehood thrown at him..but, his brash and laughing demeanor may have only appealed to us and not the people we are fighting to keep/get. Who knows what people would be saying if he had excelled in facts and demeanor. Who knows what people would be saying if Obama had had more spirit and showed some defense? Sad and maddening to think about.
Time to take a breather. Hope the polls trend back. Hope next week Obama finds that happy medium between style and substance. And continue to work harder than before.
