it would be to somehow convince people to stop using that tired old trope.

No offense intended, Glorfindel, it’s just that it’s so self-defeating and demoralizing. I understand the intent - it’s exasperating to watch criminality go unpunished but it serves no good purpose to make it axiomatic.
