(7,366 posts)Mr Floyd with both hands by the back of his neck and they go down then you can see his black gloved hand wrap around the camera and drop it under the car.
As soon as that was shown they stopped the proceeding and sent the jury home.

(2,700 posts)But that act alone doesnt make it so, not under the law. Hell say it all happened in the heat of the moment, he doesnt remember doing it, he was taking down a large and powerful man who was resisting, etc., etc.
Yes, of course its a sign of premeditation, but I seriously doubt if the jury will see it that way beyond a reasonable doubt. I think the prosecution, by laying the murder-3, murder-2, and manslaughter charges on this man, was thinking that a jury will at the very least find him guilty of manslaughter. And that is what I think is going to happen. He can get, I think, 10 years plus a fine for willful manslaughter. That plus the lawsuit thats going to be flung at him by the Floyd family should at least ruin him financially and keep him in stir for a decade. The length of the sentence and the amount of the fine imposed will, of course, be stiffer if the jury does decide on either murder-3 or murder-2.

(21,781 posts)might not happen. There are so many ways to claim "it was accidental" or "it was warranted in the circumstances."
RVN VET71
(2,700 posts)But seeing the video of the murder as it was taking place would be awfully hard for a jury to ignore. Chauvin knew what he was doing. he was begged by witnesses to stop killing the man. He persisted. Floyd died. Chauvins status as a veteran on the police force should work against any claim that he, umm, accidentally killed Mr. Floyd.
Voluntary Manslaughter allows for the fact that the death was not premeditated but, once the event got rolling, a decision was made, deliberately, not to ease off on the victims neck and to let him die. Had Chauvin ever showed remorse for what happened, ever had an OMG, I am so sorry that man died, it was never my intention that he should die moment, he might have saved himself. But he appears to be a cold blooded psychopath whos reaction to the death was simply that the s.o.b. had it coming. The jury will see that characteristic in the evidence presented to it -- and Chauvin, of course, dares not take the stand in his own defense to argue otherwise.

One of the people Chauvin tried to shoot claimed self defense in a WAPO article.

According to CNN, in 2006, Chauvin and five other officers shot and killed a man who had stabbed his girlfriend and a friend. Two years later, he was reportedly involved in an altercation with an individual suspected of a domestic dispute. Chauvin shot the man twice, though the man survived.

(17,025 posts)In 2006, he was one of six officers on the scene when Minneapolis police shot and killed a stabbing suspect. The suspect, 42-year-old Wayne Reyes, allegedly drew a shotgun on officers, prompting several of them to open fire, police told the Minneapolis Star Tribune at the time. A grand jury declined to bring charges in the case. Theres no information if he was one of the officers who fired or not.

(21,781 posts)but were there cameras? Cops will always claim self-defense, even when there ARE cameras present.

(1,737 posts)with his hands around Floyd's neck, all of a sudden body cam is off. He was the only one to utilize that strategy and the only one to lose their body cam. Hmm.... not fishy at all. The man is a murderer. I think the body cam footage were devastating for Chauvin.

It certainly should be. Things are looking worse and worse for him all the time.
Of course, it's not over until the proverbial fat lady sings, but it is NOT looking good for Chauvin right now.

(2,612 posts)Dont jump to conclusions. I dont think he wanted to kill Floyd
He was showing how to punish a black man to the newer cops that he was training. This is how you do it boys. He got carried away and killed a man. He is a murderer. He should spend the rest of his life in jail.

(4,574 posts)I don't see any conclusive evidence of the camera being deliberately removed. Looks more like it became detached because of the struggle.

Disaffected
(4,574 posts)I said "conclusive" evidence. And even if it was his black glove that knocked (or took) the camera off, it's hard to discern which.
It may hinge on how hard the cameras are to remove, either accidently or deliberately.
ecstatic
(32,786 posts)The harsh truth is that some of these cops are crooked to the core. They know how to slap the cam off before going rogue. They know how to make it look accidental (in case a prosecutor attempts to charge them--a super rare event). They know to yell, "I see a gun!!" or "stop resisting!!" right before they go in for the kill. For bad cops, all of these actions are well rehearsed, almost automatic.
It's time to take the blinders off. No normal person behaves the way chauvin did.

This video displays premeditation on the part of Chauvin only. The other guys were just standing there. Chauvin knew exactly what he wanted to do, and not get caught.
