My advice to the Administration: If you want to do an infrastructure bill, let's do an infrastructure bill.
Before the pandemic, we had the best economy in 50 years. We should not raise taxes under the guise of an infrastructure bill and send our economy in the wrong direction.

(1,910 posts)Geez, this is not hard reporters. Ask Mitch and all ranking Republicans every single time you see them what their actual plans are. The media constantly holds the Dems to the fire about every detail of their plans.
But Repugs go year after year with zero plans, zero details, and never get called on it. Health care? Climate change? Infrastructure? Social Security? Anything of substance?
Every press conference, every time you see a Repug leader in the hall way..."Can you give us specifics on your alternate plan to what the Dems are proposing??".

(47,419 posts)is some kind of bizarre journalistic blood sport. They overlook some of the most egregious behavior from republicans, as if it is just assumed they will be incompetent and corrupt - "Nothing to see here folks, just republicans being republicans." Then they go after Democrats, attacking the most minor, sometimes even nonexistent issues. I am grateful for a free press, but after awhile the constant nitpicking becomes annoying and exhausting.

(3,389 posts)The REAL Economic Cycle:
1. Democrats in power: Economy goes up, becomes a healthy economy for all.
2. Republicans in power: They destroy the economy, pass tax cuts that only benefit the rich.
3. Democrats in power: Economy goes up, becomes a healthy economy for all.
4. Republicans in power: They destroy the economy, pass tax cuts that only benefit the rich.
and so on...
Of course that there is more republicans do to affect the economy negatively, much more, we all know that.
Why people have not figured that out, I don't understand.
republicans always use that term, "The Economic Cycle", when they are in power and everyone can see the economy tanking, then they say "Oh, its the natural economic cycle"...no, it is not, it is the bad decision making of republicans that cause economic chaos, nothing else.

(43,146 posts)even though it sounds counterintuitive. Then when the economy turns up, higher volume brings in even more profits on the inventory you saved from being sold at low prices. If you can wait out that game, as Republicans can, you make more money! More yachts!! Yay!
It seems I recall the classic case study on this was GM, called "target return pricing".

(70,501 posts)Tell the republicans to stick it when Mitch McConnell and others whine about the cost on Joe Bs infrastructure plan. It will pay for itself over time, provide much needed services, provide GOOD PAYING JOBS, and they are opposed to it not because it will not
work but because they know it will work and be very popular. Every winter I try to go to western MD to New Germany State Park and stay in cabins that were built during a CCC program under FDR. The money spent on that park and those cabins have paid the
local and national economy back many times over. Remember Joe B. has a big picture of FDR up in the Oval Office. Go big or go home.
