Despite laws passed or proposed in some states, I will give water to thirsty people whenever and wherever I encounter them. And, if an elderly or disabled person asks for a ride to the polls, I will provide it.
The desperate and vindictive Republicans in Georgia and Florida and Texas and wherever else they are in power can go to hell.
I choose to be an "outlaw".

That was one of the requirements to becoming a follower, along with other tasks to demonstrate one's solidarity with the rest of humanity, such as feeding the hungry, giving succor to the poor, visiting people in prison, and tending to the sick.
You'd think civil disobedience in this instance would be defended by them as a matter of freedom of religion.
Of course, so many of them actually worship the Mango Mussolini instead.

English speakers would say second, Ive never heard clergy say two Corinthians. That sounded like the intersection of ignorance, lazy, and a scam. That his followers lapped it up is evidence that P. T. Barnum underestimated the birth rate of suckers.

(6,945 posts)that Arabic numerals represented cardinal number whereas Roman numerals represented ordinal numbers. that's why it is written "II Corinthians" Or "Henry VIII." That's become less rigid, but it does hang on in some things.

(6,206 posts)that the churches in the area could (should) start collecting bottles of water right now. They could start planning now for the upcoming elections and begin to map out which polling area they could serve. If they are not wearing anything political would it be okay? Like I said I need to research this topic but it seems like something that several different congregations might be able to help.

(6,206 posts)since 43 took office. I know of spots where we can drop off our mail in ballot if we choose not to mail it in. That is what I do, I drop it off.
If not churches than maybe service organizations like the Masons, Shriners, LOS or Eastern Star could pass water out to those in line. These organizations are not political.

(14,926 posts)"...31. When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

PhylliPretzel
(141 posts)PA folks had to provide drivers' license info last year, too. It is an easy way to provide the verification that a person is indeed a PA resident over the age of 18 and therefore entitled to vote. Also includes your signature for comparison to returned ballot, if necessary Shuts up those damn Republican voter fraud claims!
P.S. The Lt. Gov of Texas still hasn't paid our Lt. Gov. the $3M he offered for evidence of voter fraud. Yeah, 3 Reps in PA voted in the name of others; no Dems.

(10,146 posts)All religions. But the Christian religion has been right at the top, from burning so-called witches at the stake to the Crusades to the Spanish Inquisition to the murder and torture of Irish Catholics and on and on. And todays far-right white evangelicals are just as bloodthirsty. Many of them bleat about their loss of religious freedom when it is their ability to force everyone else to follow their rules, based on nothing but bias and arrogance, that they have lost.
I will borrow from Grover Norquist and apply his comment on government here to the intolerant religious right: May their religious extremism be reduced to a size that can finally be drowned in a bathtub. I am not anti-religion because I dont care what other people believe so long as their beliefs do not infringe on the rights of others or get inserted in secular government in any wayand so long as my tax dollars are not supporting them. The megachurches that rake in millions tax free come to mind as a right-wing religious organization that needs to be taxed. If theyre going to get involved in politics, as they have, they should no longer be tax exempt.

As a college student in Alabama in the 1960's, I was bitten by Bull Connor's dogs and knocked over by his firehoses. And we won.

(16,646 posts)The GQP is going to find themselves at odds with the whole Lynx/Uber legal concept of "ride sharing" once elections come around. Imagine democrats creating a "ride sharing" app for people wanting to get to the poles. The GQP would be loath to develop one and the democrats could use one to get people to the poles. The GQP are already at a disadvantage because they don't know how to develop an "Act Blue" type vehicle.

I am not myself a follower of Jesus, but I am someone who thinks basic human compassion is paramount. We are here in life to help one another. That's my essential belief. So giving food and water to those who need food and water is essential, a base imperative.

Hopefully, our For the People Act combined with court challenges will stop their planned elections-based takeover.
If worst comes to worst, thank you in advance for your plan to oppose. But it might be a lot more dangerous at that point than you realize. If we can't stop it, this would be happening in many states, and the next step when RW authoritarians seize power is establishing control by smashing resistance.
The rule of law as we know it would of course be suspended. Who knows when or if you might be released or what charges might be trumped up against you? And I think we should assume none of us would be able to discuss any of it here.
