https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/01/us/marvin-scott-texas-jail.htmlEvidence I have seen confirms that these detention officers violated well-established Sheriffs Office policies and procedures, Jim Skinner, the sheriff, said in a statement, adding that an eighth officer had resigned.
The police in Allen, Texas, just north of Dallas, arrested Mr. Scott on a marijuana possession charge on March 14. He had less than two ounces of the drug, according to the authorities a misdemeanor.
The police said they had taken Mr. Scott to a hospital because he was acting erratically. He was then taken to the county jail, where county officers restrained him and pepper-sprayed him. A spit hood was placed over his head. He died later that night.

(58,785 posts)is huge, as is the political risk if something happens and becomes public knowledge.
Just being mistreated these days may start a person, or his family or friends, looking. And if it does get to the press or attorneys become involved, subscription search engines and databases that provide even better capabilities than just "googling" may be used. And of course, old-fashioned phone calls.

As this is unacceptable. 8 enforcers killed this American for Cannabis. Well Marvin Scott will no longer be an issue right. He's just someone who liked cannabis, and the enforcers killed him for it.
I look forward to the DOJ to look into this murder of Marvin Scott and may justice prevail.

(7,402 posts)Making me think that this is another outcome of Trumpism. Words have consequences. Racists words empowers racist activity.
Firing the racist cops is not the solution as they just get rehired. Not hiring them in the first place is the solution. And that means not recruiting them. This is deliberate policy. Note, too, that it is white, male cops that are disproportionally the culprits. Power intoxicates.

(35,645 posts)I watched the George Floyd trial most of today. Now to read this. And over such trivia. Its like these officers dont have an ounce of common sense. Not a damned one of them seems to look at other cases (Sandra Bland comes to mind) and say there are other ways to handle situations other than pure brutality.
I do not see a solution. We cannot go on like this.
