If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor...

New King James Version

Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

Matthew 19:21

New Right Wing Version

Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, do everything you can to make the poor poorer, and make yourself richer. Then tell everyone what a great Christian you are."

Then I tried giving stuff away and still no one wants it. Maybe I have bad stuff.

Lots of construction related things. I still have my parent's stuff stored. Nobody wants any of it.
I want to leave as small a mess for my kids to deal with as possible.

Several years now. Give the kids a chance to look through it. They want anything, if not it is gone.

Filled up 2 trucks a contractor took. 2 Van loads to the Boy Scouts Parking lot sale. Many boxes to the Vets. Each time it gets easier.

I have everything I need right now and can't imagine anything else I couldn't live without. I figure if I've lived without it this long and haven't needed it, then why would I buy it? I guess if I got too feeble and needed a walker that would be different, but I'm talking all the nonsensical stuff we never needed in the first place.

Even though my kids will occasionally tease me about how little I own, they will appreciate it when it comes time to clean it out. There truly is nothing of any real monetary value in my house, but I still have a lovely, peaceful home.

I tell my friends that if burglars ever break into my house thinking they're going to get something good, they'll take one look around and start bringing in some of their stuff because they feel sorry for me.

And you are very right that in most cases, the kids don't want any of our stuff anyway. Most of them have too much of their own stuff.
