Arizona legislators are considering a bill that would drastically change how the state handles its unsheltered homeless population.
House Bill 2668 has several provisions that include:
*the creation of state-sponsored homeless camps that unsheltered people would be required to camp in
*and a requirement that cities with more than 50,000 people who with homelessness numbers that are above the state average, must set aside between 10 and 50% of public safety grants provided by the state for outreach.
Joan Serviss, executive director of the Arizona Housing Coalition said outreachwhich is already aggressively done by citiesis not the problem.
What's missing is that there's not enough shelter beds, and we don't have enough affordable housing, Serviss said.
The bill also includes the threat of criminal charges for sleeping on state-owned land.

Declare them non-human.
My disgust and ABSOLUTE HATRED for all things "Republican" knows no bounds.

(26,257 posts)jailing these unfortunate persons (OR Debtors Prison in short)...is NOT the way to handle this.
Moron. Absolute inhuman moron. I would say 'not Christian' behavior, but since the 'Christians' accepted rump and his filthy grubby fingers under the table groping at you know what, this is apparently acceptable 'Christian' behavior now, and its awful hard now-a-days to determine what truly Christian behavior is.

(3,334 posts)they are not Christians. My husband are I are Jewish but we try to live by it. We buried our daughter yesterday. We had a pastor our family knows because there aren't any rabbis here. He asked us why we tried to follow what Jesus said in Matthew since we were Jewish. We said that Jesus was Jewish. The service was as nice as any service we had ever attended.

(82,849 posts)You have to go a dozen or more paragraphs into the story to find out that the heartless bastard behind this is Senator David Gowan, who isn't available for comment. Probably too busy crafting a companion bill to declare homeless persons fair game and designate a season for hunting them.
David Gowan is an asshole.

(17,506 posts)Lived in a dorm at college. Back then, it was just a room with a bed, desk, bookcase and closet and a commual bathroom with showers. Make one of the rooms an office for one or more social workers, one for a small medical clinic and another for a permanent resident who can be trained and trusted to handle emergencies. It would be a place that's safe and clean. There would be jobs available to residents to cook, clean, do maintenance and so on. I'm sure this would be far cheaper than the mishmash of services and left hand not coordinating with the right hand we have now.
Or as CA is doing, tiny house communities?

(1,719 posts)They think people should be influenced by scaring, the threat and use of force and terror and humiliation and suffering. They dont even believe in influencing society successfully through persuasion, rather its my way or the highway because I said so! I declare that God has deemed what I say to be the truth and fact! These idiots and insensitive creeps are really unfit for human civilization.

(23,715 posts)drumpf was heading for this........ he just didn't have enough time to get it implemented on a national level. But that won't stop states from trying it.
If any of you DUers have access to star trek DS9 (it is on netflix, paramount+, hulu, amazon prime, youtube tv) go to season 3 episodes 11 and 12.
and weep for how close the dystopian image of the mid-2020s America is approaching...

(23,715 posts)and you saddle them with a criminal record they need to put on all their job applications, and lock them up so they can't even look for work? And now you are making the taxpayer cover all the expenses to imprison that person when you could be giving them a housing voucher for FAR less? HOW STUPID ARE THESE PEOPLE???????????????
