A 15-year-old has been arrested for allegedly assaulting an Asian couple in an attack caught on video in Washington state.
The Tacoma Police Department announced Friday that a male teen was arrested and charged with second-degree assault in connection to the attack on a Korean-American couple on Nov. 19, 2020.
Video of the attack, where the teen appears to punch an Asian man, 56, repeatedly as the woman with him looks frantic, circulated on social media recently. The suspect was 14 at the time, according to local ABC affiliate KOMO.
Police said they received a report about the video of the attack on March 31 and asked the public for information regarding the incident.

We just want to be left alone in peace. Asian-American owned business robbed, trashed in Charlotte Transit Center

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A robber trashed a convenience store at the Charlotte Transit Center and allegedly yelled racial slurs at the stores Asian American owners during broad daylight. Police arrested a man, but it isnt bringing peace to the victims.
Mark Sung says his parents, Joyce and Mun Sung, have owned Plaza Sundries convenience store in the Charlotte Transit Center since it opened in 1995. On Tuesday afternoon, a man came into the convenience store with a metal bar and began damaging store merchandise and equipment. Sung, says he and another man yelled racial slurs at Sungs family.
Hes a regular, Sung said. But that day he just walks in the store with a metal pole. No one sees it at first until he starts hitting things with it.
His friend came towards the end, stuck his head through the door and said Thats what you get. Thats what you get you Chinese motherf******.

(15,031 posts)dragged from her car at an intersection, pistol whipped, then shot twice through the left eye. The assailant got away with 58 cents, half a pack of smokes, and the life of a young girl's mother. Quickly captured, he and his 16-year-old accomplice were sentenced to far too few years. Both were out by their 18th birthdays.
I think of Lucille, and these little criminals, often. I hope her terror was dulled by shock. And I hope both criminals went on to lead productive, fulfilled lives. But I don't imagine they did. I suspect they continued as they had chosen and their end would be something on the order of her's.
I wish we'd done more for them. I hope we do more for this young man. Though I suspect we won't. Much as I suspect he may continue in his chosen path, given he was arrested for this assault "at a detention review hearing for an unrelated robbery charge."
Vicious cycles in which we must all revolve. Senseless opportunities to which too many are condemned.

What makes someone so young be so calloused about the lives of others?

(21,431 posts)about any Native Americans being victims of these kinds of attacks. Quite a few Native Americans have facial features associated with an Asian physical appearance. Combined with straight, black hair, they can easily be mistaken for Chinese or Japanese.
Back in the 1990s, I knew a woman who was half Cree who said she was frequently targeted with racial slurs used against Chinese people. She used to say that if they're going to be racist, they should at least get the slurs right.
