Prince Hamzah bin Hussein, the former Crown Prince of Jordan, says he has been placed under house arrest. The Prince, who is half brother to King Abdullah, claims that his detention comes as part of a crackdown on critics. BBC News has obtained a video of the Prince explaining his current situation from his apparent arrest. This is despite the military previously denying that Hamzah had been detained.

Around 20 high profile figures were arrested on Saturday evening for security reasons. It is being widely reported that an alleged coup may have been underway against the King. Prince Hamzah denies any wrongdoing and asserts that he is not part of any conspiracy.

The Prince's statement:
I had a visit from chief of general staff of the Jordanian armed forces this morning in which he informed me that I was not allowed to go out, to communicate with people or to meet with them because in the meetings that I had been present in or on social media relating to visits that I had made there had been criticism of the government or the king.
I am not the person responsible for the breakdown in governance, the corruption and for the incompetence that has been prevalent in our governing structure for the last 15 to 20 years and has been getting worse And I am not responsible for the lack of faith people have in their institutions.
It has reached a point where no one is able to speak or express opinion on anything without being bullied, arrested, harassed and threatened.

OP
Jordan is an ally, Jordan's monarch is the chief of state, and the Prince's mother is an American.

Yes, that might be a theoretical ideal, but it is not the reality of what is happening in Jordan

This king is no mere figurehead, and these developments are concerning, at best.

in real time.
Destabilization in Jordan might mean nothing to some, but it probably means plenty to Jordanians and Biden's State Department.

We got insanely lucky Abdullah was installed instead of an "elected" psychopath like Netanyahu.
If there's ever a resolution to the I/P issue it will certainly be because of Jordan and this king.
In general tho, I agree that monarchies are despicable relics so there's that. First though, let's take care of this I/P wreck and then we can chop off his head.

If her son is under arrest, she can't be far behind as the dragnet is wide.
