What is this personal choice BS??

Lately I've been hearing from family members, the decision to social distance, get a vaccine, attend/not attend a large gathering during this pandemic, is a personal choice.
Please explain this thinking to me. What side of the political spectrum does this fall? To me it screams Libertarian, but what do I know? Honest to God, after this is all over I dread going back to seeing these people. This Pandemic has made me rethink everything
and made it way easier to set boundaries.

That does tend to be a common Libertarian failing.

Then again, I'm sure there's stuff that they'd expect you to do as a citizen, whether you want to or not.

That's not a particular political position, that's just being hypocritical assholes.

Well, that is what being Republican means these days, come to think of it.

Now it can be done with a phone app.

The UK will be implementing it in 3 months and it will be mandatory for large group events.

In Asia they have been using a phone app with testing. If you tested negative your phone would show green and you could enter any store.

If you were positive you had to quarantine. You were provided food, your door was sealed for 2 weeks and social workers called you on the phone twice a day. If you got bad symptoms they came and got you. Once you tasted negative you were green.

In Thailand where the total death toll is less than 200 they had no cases for several months. Somehow a DJ got it. Because of the use of the phone app they were able to ID 200 people he had been in contact with in 1 day.

They all went to red, got tested and a few were positive and were quarantined, and the outbreak contained.

We are at the stone age level of contact tracing while other countries have contained it with mandatory tracing and control.

Some really hateful stuff. I said to my husband I hope the asshole is here for a COVID test and not to pick up a prescription.

Sure enough, he deposited his test in the white box outside the drive through. I wanted to yell why are you getting tested, it’s a hoax asshole. Husband suggested I refrain since he had all the gun stickers.

It reminds me of similar decals that I saw on the back of huge pick-up trucks, driven by guys who were tail-gating my Prius.

So I'd usually pull over, despite already driving faster than the speed limit, and watched as the trucks passed me and then slowed down too.

People will tell me that's an awful statement to make, but when virus-huggers refuse to wear a mask, refuse to practice social distancing measures, and refuse to get the vaccine, they are prolonging the problem and essentially telling us to fuck off and die.

So the feeling's mutual with me and the enemy within.

It is but one of the many repugnant behaviors brought out during the Trump presidency that choosing to be a selfish asshole is okay, or their “constitutional right”. Perhaps, for some, their excuse for choosing to do the wrong thing when they know it’s wrong but can’t distance themselves from their ideology. So they invent nonsense about “personal choices” to explain away their bad behavior.

Comply or die.

That's the only "choice" these days.

Mother nature has made sure there is going to be no more 'freedom loving' - Covid is not going away. The entire planet has to adapt to a new normal.

Comply or die...it's that simple.

They're selfish but they'll claim it's all about taking personal responsibility.

They won't wear a mask, won't get vaccinated, won't follow any protocols - and if they get sick, it's on them. Not your problem. Doesn't affect you.

Of course that's bullshit thinking.

They also think if they get sick and pass it on that it's not their fault. See, the person they infected should have taking personal responsibility - and if they had, they wouldn't have gotten sick.

Don't look for logic in their thinking.

For example - The idiot refuses to wear a mask, goes into a store, gets close to people, never sanitizes their hands, touches everything, and acts as if there is nothing to worry about. So if you go to the store and they are there and if you're worried then they think you should leave. That would be you taking personal responsibility, to their thinking.

It's up to everyone else to avoid them as they go about their lives pretending everything is normal.

They think - It's not up to them to work for the common good. It's up to everyone else to respect the freedom of the idiots.

Because they believe it's their right to behave as if there is no pandemic. No deadly virus killing people.

Stupidity and selfishness. Ignorance. Denial.

They are getting vaccinated, wearing masks, avoiding the sick and crowds. BUT they feel no one should advise or offer opinion on what to do and not do. For instance, if you have a group of friends that decide to have a milestone birthday party bash right now, it's your personal choice on whether to attend or not. No responsibility falls to the hosts. That is complete and utter insanity to me.
We have been told by the medical community these events need to hold off at the very least til we have herd immunity.
