(86,590 posts)I was in the vicinity of, 45 miles away, from a quake about that size/mag. a few years back. It was early am and I was in a wall tent that was being used as office space in an outback setting. I didn't feel the ground move but all the walls of the tent billowed in unison as if a small explosion occurred.
The whole Pacific rim has been very quakey lately.

(89,249 posts)Felt more like how it feels when a large vehicle drives by and there is some vibration of the building. DId not feel the ground move at all. I was totally awake and standing up when it happened and i'm close to where you are.

(32,675 posts)in Michigan. I was upstairs and felt it. I was on the second floor and it woke me up. I thought the house was shaking from a wind storm. I looked out the window and weren't any leafs moving on the trees, so I figured it out. My buddy was in the basement awake at the time and he didn't feel a thing.

(6,526 posts)I lived in an apartment near the beach in LA. There was an earthquake offshore, and the lights popped off. Scared the crap outta me. It was like some Twilight Zone episode where the aliens are testing various stimulus on the populace. "See, it doesn't take much..."
