(146,284 posts)would be very concerned about that mild warning. The FBI has far more important things to do.
So, my answer is correct. There is nothing really to prevent someone from making such a fake record. Now, if they use it in an illegal way, that might be cause for an investigation by law enforcement, but such investigations would be very unusual, really.
Ms. Toad
(34,059 posts)you said the cards were not an official document nor standardized.
They are both. The FBI's statement indicates they are official documents (i.e. the use of the logo on the card is prohibited, because it is the official logo of the CDC and not authorized for private use.) As to being standardized - it is a standardized governmental form, as indicated by the version date of the form & the form number on the back side.
I don't believe I suggested that the warning would prevent anyone intent on creating a fake from soing so.

(6,474 posts)btw the way they catch you is the illegal use of the CDC seal in the upper right hand corner.

(20,829 posts)Most places didn't even enforce the pandemic shutdowns and mask ordinances. They have done nothing to prevent people from jumping the vaccine queues. I assume very little policing of vaccine cards will occur. There is no teeth in any of this.

(26,257 posts)Twitter, Shopify and eBay are being taken to task by top U.S. law enforcement officials who say the platforms are being used to sell blank or fake COVID-19 vaccination cards to consumers across the country.
The attorneys general from 41 states, three territories and Washington, D.C., wrote to the CEOs of the three companies on April 1, saying, The use of your platforms to disseminate the deceptive marketing and sales of fake vaccine cards is a threat to residents of our states."
The letter comes after a blunt warning this week from the FBI, which stated, If you make or buy a fake COVID-19 vaccination record card you are breaking the law.
Warning letters sent to CEOs
The letters were sent to Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter; Tobias Lütke, CEO of Shopify; and Jamie Iannone, CEO of eBay.
Only nine state attorneys general did not sign the letter, sent under the auspices of the nonpartisan National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG). Those officials are from Alabama, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana and Texas.
North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein, a Democrat, and Tennessee Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III, a Republican, led the signatories.
People receive legitimate COVID-19 vaccination cards from providers when they get their shots. Those who buy a fake card can have information added to it or add details in themselves, so it appears they have been vaccinated when they have not, NAAG said in a release announcing the news.

(4,741 posts)Why try and make your own probably half-assed forgery when you can find a ready-to-peint PDF with just a few clicks?
I suspect this trend will cool off once a few of these subhumans get some nice charges. I'd hope for attempted homicide but that might be a stretch...
does a vaccination card do? I've been fully vaccinated since January and I'm still subject to the same rules as everybody else. All it bought me was peace of mind that I won't infect anybody, and for that you don't need a card. I can't travel to Europe, I can't take off the &%^$ing mask. My life is the same as it was last fall.

(34,059 posts)For example - based on my parents' vaccination, my spouse and I were able (under both CDC and their retirement community rules) to visit them yesterday for 5 hours, in their home, unmasked.
Because my spouse and I are fully vaccinated, my parents are not under any restrictions as a result of our visit. Our vaccination cards were the ticket to that freedom for my parents. (Had we not been vaccinated, they would have been unable to visit friends in their homes or have meals in the dining room for 5 days.)
(And if you've only been restricting your activities since last fall, that's a pretty short restriction - yesterday is the first time in more than a year that I have been in someone's home unmasked. Including yesterday, I've now been unmasked in the presence of someone who doesn't live with me 17 times since about March 9 last year. All but 4 were for medical or dental reasons. So that should give you some sense of how cautious I am - and how much difference the vaccination card can make.)

(12,022 posts)I got mine at a major health care provider, and it has a bar code, drug lot number, etc.
My husband got his shot at Walmart and it doesn't have a barcode.

(1,919 posts)Mine is neither serialized nor does it have a barcode. Even if they did, they were not handing them out in any particular order, nor where they logging your name against anything. The only record that exists that I got the vaccine in Michigan is the card they gave me and the fact that I had an appointment set up. They weren't even checking our health insurance or having us fill out anything. Literally was just confirm appointment, get in line, get the shot, get your card, and leave.
Ms. Toad
(34,059 posts)the cards are not.
Ellipsis
(9,124 posts)I have to think they're tracking that data to the recipient.
Ms. Toad
(34,059 posts)The CARDS are not serialized. The doses come from a particular lot, which is recorded. There's a pattern to the lot numbers, but those may be handwritten, affixed v. a sticker, perhaps stamped. So as long as your fake lot # matches the pattern, it would not stand out like a sore thumb if you just printed a card on the right cardstock and printed your information (including a pattern-matched lot #).
I was just disputing the assertion that the cards are serialized.

(33,112 posts)I have two family members in that category.
I showed mine to one of them and since they were vaccinated in Jan - Feb 21 they have State issued documents. I haven't seen one, but, they are quite a bit different.
Is there somewhere or some process they can use to get the CDC like card?
GoCubsGo
(32,078 posts)All they have to do is compare my name, birth date, and the lot numbers to know whether or not the card is real, and whether or not I was actually vaccinated. Not to mention that the CDC has a lot more information than you might realize. I don't know about anyone else, but they scanned in my driver's license when I registered. That has everything they need to know about me, including my SSN, which I did not give them, but is in the state records. At some point, it will likely be used for something more "official" and less able to be copied (i.e., a vaccination passport.)

(20,648 posts)people beyond child-bearing age can still infect and kill those who might have otherwise reproduced. If those young people are dumb enough to hang around with them.
It also selects for integrity....
Those cards put humans at the fruit-fly reproduction speed for evolution...

(23,336 posts)... I was sitting at the little table waiting for the nurse to finish playing with the computer. I looked at the table, and it had some brochures about the hospital, a pile of band-aids, a pile of alcohol wipes, and a stack of blank vaccination record cards. So the blank cards are not protected like blank driver licenses or blank passports. It's just a plain cardboard form.
Sure, use Word, or Paint, or any other such app to create the card. I don't think a card will really be very effective against covid, though.
