These vaccine passports segregate people and strip them of their freedom to travel internationally. Vaccinations are important, and I encourage everyone to get the Covid vaccine, but how would you feel if international travel also required other vaccinations?

(23,097 posts)There are many countries that require certain vaccinations before you are allowed to travel there - everyone knows that but he's a physician and doesn't know? How incredibly ignorant is he, or is he just another trumpist liar?

(15,084 posts)Don't talk to me about vaccines required for travel.
Keep yourself and your fellow travelers safe.
It was worth every poke!

(2,636 posts)Pretty sure some countries do require vaccines. "American" is not a virus shield.
My parents lived in Monrovia, Liberia in the early 60s. My Mom kept copious records of the vaccines she and my dad got. When my dad was to be transferred to Caracas in 1968, my mom insisted my younger brother, not old enough for the smallpox vax, get it, because she "wasn't taking any of her babies overseas without their shots."

(45,483 posts)If you don't have the WHO card showing your shot, you have 2 choices.
1. Get the shot right there in the airport.
2. Get back on the plane and go back to where you came from.

(33,643 posts)There is one that is globally required which the US enforces, and that is the Yellow Fever vaccine, required when travelling to certain areas in Africa.
Other vaccines are 'recommended' by the US government, and also may be required by the governments of the countries being travelled to.
It's not wrong to say no vaccines are required just to get on a plane in order to go anywhere outside the US in general, i.e. requirements are always location specific.
So if the US were to say 'you must have covid vaccine to the leave the US by plane', this actually would be an entirely new thing.
I don't know if that's what's being discussed exactly but I am guessing yes?

(3,696 posts)Travel Medicine is a thing or at least it is for some corporate travels. My former Employer had to comply with required testing and vaccinations to travel abroad. I assumed this was standard operating procedure and not just my company's rules.
