Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsOn Rachel just now, she announced that the Senate parliamentarian...
just ruled that the Dems can do three budget reconciliations bills this term.
Who knows why but we should just cheer and not wonder why. These bills can be passed by just a simple majority.

(26,733 posts)his vote is also needed in order to uphold the parliamentarian's view. The parliamentarian only has power to make the decision if there are 51 votes behind her.
And he just hinted that he's not on board.
If the filibuster is eliminated or budget reconciliation becomes the norm, a new and dangerous precedent will be set to pass sweeping, partisan legislation that changes the direction of our nation every time there is a change in political control. The consequences will be profound our nation may never see stable governing again

(7,447 posts)usually, you can only do one...but, there wasn't one last year so you can carry that over and do two.
What this is uses a never before used rule that lets you amend a previous reconciliation bill, using the reconciliation process.
So, in short, they can do one more reconciliation bill to make up for not doing one last year, and THEN they can amend either of those bills using reconciliation later in the year.
Basically, this just turned once a year reconciliation into twice a year reconciliation.

(15,601 posts)Each year there is a budget resolution, and this congress has two left, one for this year, and one for next year.
IIRC, the parliamentarian has ruled that, in addition to passing the budget resolution via reconciliation, they can go back and use reconciliation to add amendments to each budget resolution.

(53,776 posts)as Biden promised. And maybe this will quiet the complainers on the left for a while that the present bill is not enough.

(53,776 posts)chances of the bills, when written of course, passing since the filibuster requirement of 60 votes is bypassed and only a simple majority is required to pass.
Do you agree on that?

(15,601 posts)Some of Bidens proposals, especially some of the elder and child care bits, may not qualify for reconciliation.

(11,631 posts)Was almost certain that they could not pass HR1 with this which means you still have to circumvent the filibuster somehow for voting rights.
