Hardships of Black Farmers

In this past COVID Relief bill, $ 5 Billion went specifically to Black farmers. Something Senator PittyPat of South Carolina had the nerve to call reparations. AS IF.

This is only part of the truth that Black farmers have always faced.

“We have lived under economic terrorism for decades,” said Georgia farmer Eddie Slaughter. Subsidies issued during Covid-19 are just another form of exclusion, he and other farmers say.

“The bailout should be called a buyout for votes — not that the farmers don’t need them,” she said.

Trump engaged in a trade war with China in 2018, and his administration created a subsidy program to mitigate farmers’ losses. Retaliatory tariffs by China, natural disasters and the pandemic have dealt such big blows to nearly all of the country’s agricultural exports that this year alone, the subsidies are estimated to reach a record $46 billion, according to the New York Times.

Black farmers say this level of aid has passed them by, not just in 2020, but also historically.

President Biden is about to change that.

Black farmers, left out of Trump's bailout, find relief in Biden stimulus bill

Black farmers across the U.S. will see relief from the latest stimulus bill after being largely left out of roughly $50 billion in government aid provided to farmers during the Trump administration.

“Direct farm loans to Black farmers fell by more than half under the previous administration and just 00.09% of the $26 billion in direct payments to all farmers [under the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program] went to Black farmers under the previous administration,” USDA Spokesperson Matt Herrick told Yahoo Finance. “We know that socially disadvantaged farmers have struggled to fully succeed due to systemic discrimination and a cycle of debt that began decades ago and was only made worse by COVID-19.”

Out of the $1.9 trillion in the American Rescue Plan, roughly $4 billion will be allocated to farmers of color. Up to 120% of these farmers’ outstanding debts will be paid off, with the extra 20% going toward taxes associated with the outstanding debt. An additional $1.01 billion in the bill will be provided for outreach, training, education, technical assistance, grants and loans, and funding for improving land access.

“I’ve been trying to get debt relief through an act of Congress for about 30 years,” Boyd told Yahoo Finance. “It’s been taken out of a lot of legislative efforts. This isn’t something we just tried to do here recently. We’ve been trying to do it for a very, very long time.”

There are roughly 44,200 Black farmers in America as of 2017, accounting for 1.3% of all farmers in the country.

Guess the white farmers just consider that they are superior wypipo. They don't want the competition of those they see as inferior. Hell they still view them as slaves that should be picking their cotton.
