(31,683 posts)It's not going to be good.
If that was my brother or nephew or cousin (black men) -
It would tell me that I can't rely on the justice system to punish lynching.
That we would have to get justice on our own. That's not good.

(31,997 posts)I weep for this nation.
We are taught in grade school that USA -ya ya ya
actually it is not great-our history-just the rich people making it off the backs of the rest of us-black, brown, red, yellow, poor

(68,352 posts)if not we need other ways to hand these case. I think they should be tried at the federal level...burning and rioting accomplished exactly nothing.

Sympthsical
(8,936 posts)I'm guessing not.
People shouldn't approve of violence, much less so clearly lust for it.
That would make us better than the Right how? Or is our violence better than their violence?
If you think Trump was a problem, unleash this rocking and rolling, and see what the electorate does.

(32,626 posts)what kind of 'innocents' would those be? Like the 7 people that lost their eyes from projectiles fired at them while peacefully protesting? Like the slew of unarmed black people that have been killed by cops, who face zero consequences? Those innocents? Are you going to pay out of pocket for that? When there is no justice, people 'revolt'. Don't know if you noticed, but the protests this summer across the country...that was the electorate.
Sympthsical
(8,936 posts)You're saying I'm ok with police violence against protestors.
Which part of not being ok with violence was unclear in my post?
Biden won the presidential election - but it was close when it comes to the states that flipped the electoral college. We lost seats in the House.
And that was with Trump.
The people who so clearly want violence if the result is not what they desire should keep that in mind.
But, this is the Internet. The people who are ok with violence should it result will watch it approvingly from their living rooms, insulated from the damage caused. As is usually the way of these things. All of the mouth in the game and none of the skin.
So, you know, a Wednesday.

(32,626 posts)I don't know anyone who clearly wants violence. I know plenty that clearly want justice, and I know what it means to be human.

(5,584 posts)He even got one of them to admit hed done almost the exact same thing to an arrestee. As in, he admitted hed handcuffed an arrestee, and then held them in a stressed position while waiting for EMS to arrive.
The defense attorney has also gotten several of the experts to admit that Chauvins knee is on the back / shoulder and not Floyds neck.
This case hangs by a thread, and it would not surprise me at all if Chauvin walks.

(68,352 posts)No one has the right to burn down other people's property...which by the way insurance often won't cover.

(68,352 posts)make the situation worse. Any movement loses needed support once it turns violent. Burning down cities because you don't like the verdict in a court case or whatever, is wrong period. I don't like the situation with institutional racism and the police, but how will burning down a neighborhood solve anything? People driven from their homes and in many case insurance won't cover the losses of homes and businesses...not the way to attract folks to an important cause.

(54,770 posts)I think prosecutors would keep going after him if that happens.
I think he might get away with the lesser charge, but there isnt much way to explain 9 minutes crushing a handcuffed mans neck.
