This has been a tough year for teachers. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it so that many of them cant teach their students in public. Theyve had to adjust teaching their students virtually and deal with disruptions caused by the pandemic.
And while teachers want to go back to their classrooms, they also want to make sure that they can do so in a safe manner. According to Fox News Greg Gutfeld, that makes them lazy, incompetent and corrupt.
Co-host Juan Williams asked why Teachers Unions are being attacked for looking out for their members best interests.
Gutfeld ranted:
Because theyre corrupt. Theyre lazy. Theyre incompetent. I dont think its their fault though. Because I think the lack of competition has created this system where you now have a woeful generation of ambivalent educators. I know thats a blanket statement but Im talking about what Im seeing with the teachers unions. I dont think it was always like this.
The Fox host continued,
I mean, you know, just pull it out of the schools and give it to the students. I mean, we dont fund the grocery store. We fund the person buying the groceries. We give them the food stamps. So this is what how weve got to treat education. Weve got to empower the family because theres a huge imbalance. Theres a power imbalance between the teachers unions and the families. And the only way to change that is to create competition by empowering the families to be able to spend their money which they can get instead of the public schools on something that actually helps their kids.
The attack on teachers is kind of a wild strategy for Republicans. While many parents are frustrated that their children havent been in school, they also understand that safety comes first.

(10,156 posts)The GOP has been trying to eliminate our public school system for decades. They'd like to do the same thing to the USPS, Social Security, Medicare and other necessary publicly-funded services.

These idiots want all the Power. But dont have the first clue as to what makes that Power possible anymore.
They LOVE to trot out what a marvel this country is for entrepreneurs. They forget that most of those sell-able innovations first required a boatload of trained engineers that were bored as hell down on the farm.

(866 posts)I read in a large Arlington, VA education site that parents should be concerned that the lack of pay raises for teachers is why teachers are crappy. Untrue, obnoxious, insulting to say teachers are crappy..... but wait, yeah, how does this affect the bottom line? Yes, the cure for what Republicans see as crapy teachers is pay raises for teachers!!!! No more being a well educated, self sacrificing teacher, get the cash.

(38,310 posts)Incurious people lacking critical thinking skills vote Republican. So do sociopaths.
Good teachers promote critical thinking skills and scientific inquiry. Good teachers foster the natural curiousity and kindness of children, they don't beat it out of them.
That's why authoritarians fear good teachers.

(100,063 posts)It's instantly a dead giveaway that their opinions on the subject come from Fox News. And it's also a very high probability that the rest of their opinions are garbage too. And as the son of a former teacher, this shit offends me to no end.

His description fits NONE of those teachers.
