(16,993 posts)I dont see any repub stepping up. I had some friends who had a rat infestation compliments of Hurricane Michael. They thought everything was fixed months ago but this past week found the rats had chewed through the drain hose on the dishwasher. All the bottom cabinets in the kitchen, sheet rock and flooring have the be replaced. Manchins like those rats. We thought the problem was fixed turns out it was just hidden.

(14,621 posts)If a republican doesn't show for a vote, for any reason, and it is a tie at 49, then she can still cast the deciding vote.
on edit.. it would take 2 gop to be absent. not one. my bad, but the tie still holds.

(26,721 posts)That is... knowing that a vote is going to be held the day after tomorrow... still not showing up for that vote.
The majority can't just see that two minority members are absent and decide "hey... let's hold that vote now!"

(26,721 posts)He didn't say that reconciliation couldn't be used again... though (as you note) he also said that he doesn't support the current infrastructure proposal (which likely makes reconciliation a moot point for now).

(18,972 posts)They never draft a bill and pass it as is, Manchin will vote for reconciliation on infrastructure, just has to be negotiated to his liking first.

(26,721 posts)or whether (as Schumer would like), reconciliation can be used again this budget year.
Manchin hinted yesterday that he wouldn't support that.
