A Capitol riot defendant was “viciously and savagely” beaten by a guard in a Washington, D.C. jail and may lose sight in one eye because of his injuries, one of his lawyers told the CBS affiliate in the city, WUSA-TV. Ryan Samsel is accused of pushing over barriers and knocking down a police officer – causing her to suffer a concussion – during the January 6 riot.

Samsel is from Bristol, Pennsylvania, in Bucks County, CBS Philadelphia reports.

Samsel has been in federal custody since his arrest in January on charges of forcibly assaulting or interfering with a federal agent, obstructing an official proceeding and obstructing an officer.

I spent my very early years in lower Bucks County not far from Bristol and this comes as no surprise to me. It was full of hoodlums in the 1950s and we were explicitly told to stay away from the town. We lived approximately 4 miles from Bristol, and literally never ever went there for any reason. We used to drive through To get to the Burlington Bristol Bridge in order to drive to the Jersey shore, but no one would ever consider stopping there for any reason at all whatsoever. In addition, the Rohm and Haas Chemical plant gave off more pollution then any other facility in the Delaware Valley, and I had written a post about that many years ago here.
