In general, it might be safer for someone in her situation to just become Independent. Alaska Repubs treated her really nasty, last time around.

If she were to diminish McTurtle's contingent by one, that would be a BIG "minus one."

AND--she would still have to win the election, too. The Republicans would pour a fortune into that race to try to make sure she didn't.

... I hope she wins... and she does have an instinct for political survival. Lisa should run as non-patrician, become Independent if she wins, and consider being an "I" Democrat. We need more real Progressives, but a few moderate Republican x-overs wouldn't hurt, if we need 60 votes for something.

This is not like the Manchin situation, switching parties would hurt her electability

She can survive as a hypothetical I who everyone knows will caucus with Republicans... but she probably can’t survive as a Democrat.

And that’s before noting that she has explicitly rejected the idea.

She won an improbable independent bid when she lost a GOP primary. I don't think she'll all that concerned.
