And with that, I highly recommend Dr Kevin Levin book, Searching for Black Confederates
University of North Carolina Press (2019)
Levin’s study is the first of its kind to…debunk the mythology of enslaved African Americans who allegedly served voluntarily in behalf of the Confederacy.—

I got the
book because a family member kept going on about black confederates & southern heritage. Our bio family got here in 1905, Cousin Dave is a straight up fool and racist living in the Michigan thumb. The zoom family reunion was lit.
